Just four days away.......Thursday, May 7, 2026 - 7:00 p.m. - general meeting and program.
Learn more about Grand Island’s history as Society President Curt Nestark, along with members Mary Cooke and Grand Island Historian Jodi Robinson, present a program on The History of the Edgewater Hotel.
We will meet at the Grand Island Cultural Center, 2100 Baseline Road. The Cultural Center is in the lower level of St. Stephen’s Old Church. There is an elevator, making the space ADA accessible.
This is a perfect chance to see the amazing renovations that have occurred in this space over the past 3 years.
GI Historical Society members are free; guests are asked for $5 donation. A short business meeting starts at 7pm. Refreshments will follow the program.

Dear Historical Society members,

Our next meeting is Thursday, April 2 at 7:00 pm at River Lea.
A short society meeting will begin the evening.
Volunteers are needed for several upcoming programs and will be announced during the meeting.

Our program speaker is Anne Conable, president of the Buffalo Maritime Center.
Her program will highlight the successful celebration last fall of the 200th anniversary of the opening of the Erie Canal.

There will be two books available to purchase: The Erie Canal: Perspectives at 200, volumes 1&2.
The books are a series of essays on various aspects of Canal history.
The cost is $20 each. Cash or check made out to BMC (Buffalo Maritime Center)

We will meet in the attached apartment behind the River Lea museum.
Park as usual and walk up the path to River Lea; signs will direct you around the front to the side entrance of the apartment.

Refreshments will be served after the presentation.
This program is free for members; guests are asked for a $5 donation

GI Historical Society General Meeting & Program is
Thursday, Nov. 6, 2025, 7:00 p.m. at River Lea, Beaver Island State Park. Back for a fourth time by popular demand, singer Don Dwyer will entertain us with Erie Canal Songs and Stories to help celebrate the 200th anniversary of the opening of the Erie Canal.
