Carter got this cool shot while working on our HO scale model train exhibit. It’s of the Moffat 402 Mikado crossing the Rock Creek/Egeria Canyon Trestle Bridge near Toponas. Have you seen the progress made on this work-in-progress layout? It’s worth a visit!

πŸŽ™οΈ Tune in TOMORROW beginning at 7 am!

Listen to KFFR 88.3 FM for a conversation between our executive director, Dave Naples, and KFFR host Mike Turner. These two have known each other for many years, so you can expect a lively (and likely entertaining) conversation filled with fascinating railroad history and the latest updates from the Museum.

Dave is a wealth of knowledge, so you won’t want to miss it!

Well July certainly whizzed on by! But as we roll into August, we want to give a special shout out to Tonja & Colorado Corndog & Burger Company for their support of our museum for their July Round-Up Program!

Also thank you to all that rounded up their food purchase in support of our museum. Every dollar counts and we appreciate it!

We hope you'll continue to support their food truck behind Camber Brewing in Fraser. You just might run into our museum's board president, Mike Muldrow, who claims it's his office when he's not working at the museum!

Moffat Road Railroad Museum Volunteer Spotlight: Joe Fassel

Some volunteers give their time. Others leave a legacy. Joe Fassel is doing both.

Joe has poured countless hours into preserving the Moffat Road Railroad Museum, lending his craftsmanship to projects big and small. From restoring our 1923 all-wooden caboose to replacing the roof and restoring the exterior of our historic Depot, his steady hands and dedication can be seen throughout the museum. And as if that weren't enough, Joe recently stepped up once again by joining our Board of Directors! And to make it all happen, he regularly drives from Frisco (a 70-mile trip each way) to volunteer. That's the kind of commitment that makes a lasting difference.

One of our favorite stories happened while restoring the Depot. We asked Joe how he and Museum Director Dave Naples settled on the Depot's exterior paint colors.

With a laugh, Joe pointed to a March 8, 1947 issue of The Saturday Evening Post.

That magazine wasn't sitting on a bookshelf. It had been tucked into the Depot's roof decades ago and used as insulation! When the roof was removed before the Depot was relocated to the museum, Joe discovered the magazine hidden inside.

The colors featured on that 1947 cover became the inspiration for the Depot's beautifully restored exterior, creating a fitting tribute to the era in which the building served the railroad.

Thank you, Joe, for preserving not just our buildings, but the stories they hold. We are incredibly grateful for your talent, your generosity, and your passion for keeping railroad history alive. History isn't preserved by buildings alone, it's preserved by people like you. Thank you for the thousands of hours you've invested in the Moffat Road Railroad Museum. Your craftsmanship, dedication, and heart will be appreciated by generations of visitors to come.

❀️ Please join us in thanking Joe for everything he does!
