🧴 HISTORIC AD SPOTLIGHT 🧴
Pond’s Extracts — “The Vegetable Pain Destroyer”
Donated by Barbara Purcell, this advertisement features The Vegetable Pain Destroyer sold by T. Brady of Honesdale, Pennsylvania.
Created in 1846 by chemist Theron T. Pond of Utica, New York, Pond’s Extract became a widely used 19th-century patent medicine. It was an early commercial preparation of witch hazel (hamamelis), promoted for treating everything from minor wounds to general soreness.
💊 A fascinating glimpse into early medical advertising and everyday health remedies of the 19th century.

💚🐐 A HUGE thank you to the Tri-Valley FFA members for partnering with the Time and the Valleys Museum during our 1930s Lost Farm Day on Sunday afternoon!

Visitors enjoyed learning about agriculture through hands-on experiences, including walking, feeding, and petting goats provided by Grays Udder Chaos Farm in Napanoch and handling chickens raised by FFA members.

We are so grateful for your time, knowledge, and enthusiasm in helping educate our community about the importance of agriculture. Partnerships like these make learning fun and create lasting memories for visitors of all ages.

Thank you, Tri-Valley FFA, for helping make the day such a success! 🐓🌾🚜

🔥 FERNDALE FIRE OF 1913 🔥
From the collection of Manville B. Wakefield comes a powerful before-and-after look at the Ferndale Fire of 1913, which occurred on June 10th, 1913.
The images show Kantor’s Drug Store in Ferndale before and after the fire that swept through the area.
Kantor’s Pharmacy was especially remembered for its “always pure, fresh and cold Ice Cream Sodas,” a local favorite of the time. 🍦
A striking reminder of how quickly everyday life changed in early Sullivan County communities.

REV250 Monday Series
The Battle of Downs Brook was one of several Revolutionary War-era conflicts that took place in the Catskills region as tensions between Patriots and Loyalists affected local communities. Unlike many battles of the Revolution, there is no official report of the Battle of Downs Brook, and much of what is known today comes from local accounts and historical research. These stories help us remember that the Revolution was fought not only on famous battlefields, but also in the towns, valleys, and forests of our own region.
⏳ 19 days until the opening of our new exhibit, Life on the Frontier During the American Revolution, on July 4, 2026!
Follow along each Monday as we explore local Revolutionary War history leading up to the exhibit opening at the Time and the Valleys Museum.

A NEW CHAPTER IN SULLIVAN COUNTY HISTORY
From the collection of Manville B. Wakefield comes this look back at a milestone moment in local heritage.
On June 9, 1957, former Sullivan County Historian James W. Burbank officially opened the gates to Fort Delaware in Narrowsburg, introducing the region to the growing 1950s “theme park” trend.
Today, the site continues its legacy as the Fort Delaware Museum of Colonial History, where visitors can step into the world of colonial history through immersive interpretation and living history experiences.
A destination that began as a mid-century vision continues to bring the past to life for new generations. ✨
