Our natural history exhibits and programs engage and educate in order to spark a lifelong connection to the natural world.

Open Friday - Sunday, 10 - 4, admission by donation. The Magic Forest Playscape & grounds are open for exploration dawn - dusk. Take the whole family for a day of exploration, learning, and fun at The Nature Museum. Inside, you can examine Vermont wildlife up-close with interactive exhibits, hand-painted dioramas, and mounted specimens. Crawl through an underground bear den, dig for fossils, dress

up as your favorite creature, and watch the resident honeybees at work in their glass hive. Borrow one of the Museum’s Outdoor Adventure Backpacks and head outside to continue your adventure. Stroll or skip through the pollinator garden- you may see those same honeybees out collecting pollen or take a hike through the forest along the Fairy House Trail. Discover pond dipping, enjoy a picnic in the backyard, and take a closer look at the beauty that surrounds you.

Join us Saturday September 12th to get outdoors and help us prep the grounds for the annual arrival of the fairies and their fans! Rain or shine, we'll be sprucing up the Fairy House Trail, prepping fairy house sites, and much more to help welcome the magic for another year.

Builders bring the magic! Be a an official builder to find the perfect spot to feature your imaginative fairy house along our Fairy House Trail for all to see. Plus, creative building happens all weekend thanks to our Builder Station where anyone can grab some materials, tinker, and build 🧚‍♀️

That’s a wrap on Summer Unplugged 2026! From investigating cat claws & bird beaks to marveling at caddisfly casings & monarch migrations, our future naturalists dived headfirst into learning how local wildlife survives & thrives! 🦉🐺🦋🐾🐸

A hearty round of applause to our incredible local libraries & each adventurous participant who joined the fun; you made this summer truly unforgettable! 🏃‍♀️

Our budding naturalists worked hard to build homes for the local fairies, elves, nymphs, as well as a local cicada in our final week of Summer Unplugged 2026! 🧚‍♂️

From cozy beds to stony fire pits to in-ground septic systems, we were AMAZED by the careful thought, planning, & care in every build.

Did you know that earthworms have microscopic hairlike structures called setae (pronounced “see-tee”) that allow them to get a grip on the soil around them? This way, they can propel themselves forward!🪱

Last week in Summer Unplugged, we dug deep into life underground! From seasonal torpor to raising young away from predator eyes, there are countless reasons why critters live beneath the surface.
