Did you know that prior to the country's bicentennial a committee was organized, including Mayor Bien , Harold Mark, Arnie Schultz, Howie Kylllo, Jennie Busby, Marilyn Lensch, Therese Bien and Kathy Holm a decision was made to purchase a Liberty Bell, 270lbs, 3/8 scale replica of the original bell, which would be paid for by selling shares for $17.76 with 1/10 of a share available for children under 18 for $1.76. You received a card showing proof of ownership of the bell.
January 16, 1976, Lt.Gov. Rudy Perpich came to the high school to present a bicentennial flag & a framed certificate of official recognition for Goodhue's participation in preparing for the event.
How many of you still have your card to prove ownership of the bell? Do you know where the bell is? Want to find out more? Check out the Goodhue Area History Museum. OPEN Thursdays and Sundays 1-4pm
