Texas Botanical Gardens & Native American Interpretive Center, Inc. A nonprofit organization dedicated to education, conservation, & cultural heritage. The Native American Interpretive Center will follow in three years.

The Gardens offer an immersive look at native plant life, while the Center integrates archaeology, Indigenous history, and ecological stewardship. Legacy Plaza is a cultural and educational center in the heart of Texas that honors and celebrate early Native American history and life. Our living museum highlights their dependence on the region's native plants and waterways. Legacy Plaza, consisting of the Texas Botanical Gardens, the Goldthwaite Pavilion and the Goldthwaite Welcome Center, is located on one downtown city block. Design and construction of the town green and welcome center was funded with a grant from the Texas Department of Transportation in 2010. The Grand Opening of the Gardens was on Saturday, October 11th, 2014.

The sight of these Standing Cypress rosettes popping up throughout the Gardens makes our hearts happy! These little babies spent their first year growing a strong base, and next year they’ll send up tall spikes covered in vibrant, tubular orange flowers.

We had so many of these growing in unfavorable spots this spring that we were able to transplant them into pots for you to take home!

Doors open at 10 AM tomorrow for our Rooted in Texas Native Plant Sale. Come grab one of these beautiful native wildflowers before they’re all gone!

Want to bring a little sunshine home? We’ll have bare-root Maximilian sunflower plants for sale at our Rooted in Texas Native Plant Sale this Saturday, generously donated straight from the Middle School Butterfly Gardens.

Today, we recognize Indigenous Peoples Day by celebrating Indigenous cultures, honoring living traditions, and making space to listen and learn.

One meaningful way to do this is by attending Indigenous events and learning directly from the artists, dancers, and cultural educators who share their knowledge and traditions.

A wonderful opportunity to connect is the upcoming Austin Powwow and Native American Heritage Festival this November! We are excited to be attending again this year as an Arena Sponsor and will have a booth set up to connect with all who stop by to say Hi. Mark your calendars and we’ll see you there.

Still thinking about the incredible performance by Sean and Jason Soukkala of Native Pride Productions at Prairie Experience 2026. Their father-and-son Grass Dance brought so much energy to the evening.

We are grateful they traveled to Goldthwaite to share their culture with us. From their performance at Prairie Experience to the educational program they shared with local students, their visit gave us opportunities to experience a living tradition firsthand.

After a weekend of rain, the prairie verbena (Glandularia bipinnatifida) is bursting with blooms—and it feels like the perfect reflection of what happened at the Prairie Experience last Saturday night.

This year’s event was filled with an incredibly powerful energy of love and community. We are so grateful for everyone who showed up, shared their gifts, and helped make the evening so special. It’s officially go time around the Garden office with Prairie Experience happening this Saturday! There’s plenty to do, but in the middle of a busy day, it was nice to step out onto the porch for a little break.

We were greeted by bumblebees around the salvia, goldfinches splashing in the fountain, and a steady breeze playing music through the wind chime.

A pretty good reminder that even during the busiest days, there’s always a little bit of nature waiting just outside the door. 🌿🐝
