Not all paintings in Pissarro's late work reach the intensity and freshness of this picture, which was acquired as early as 1901. As in Monet's »Fields in Spring«, the painter is interested in the phenomenon of light on a bright summer's day. The dissolution of the surfaces into individual short strokes and traces of color in an almost staccato-like rhythm is characteristic of late Impressionism and points to the increasing formal signs of dissolution of the style, which Pissarro had a decisive influence on from the start.
