Cleve Carney Museum of Art Welcome to the Cleve Carney Museum of Art! The Cleve Carney Museum of Art (CCMA) is named in honor of the late Cleve Carney.
(55)
Cleve Carney provided a significant legacy gift to establish the Cleve Carney Art Gallery, a one-story, 1,850-square-foot addition on the west side of the McAninch Arts Center. He also donated artworks from his own extensive contemporary art collection, which will be prominently displayed throughout the College campus along with other pieces in the College’s Permanent Art Collection. In 2019 work began to expand the galleries and the space reopened in 2021 as the Cleve Carney Museum of Art.

Wishing everyone happy holidays! The museum will close for the holiday break beginning 12/22/2023 and reopen with usual hours on 1/3/2024. See you in the new year!
Join us at the CCMA on 12/12 at 12pm for an artist talk with exhibiting artist Dylan Yarbrough, as he speaks about his series "I am an Eclipse", currently featured in Once: 2023 Emerging Artist Exhibit. This talk is free and open to the public.
"I am an Eclipse" is a socially engaged art project led by Yarbrough and Marcela Ossa. Dylan and Marcela are partnered with Cento Romero, a non-profit organization that has supported the immigrant and refugee community of Chicago for over 35 years. "Our process is a ritual of release," says Dylan. "The participants engage in quiet mindfulness while their portrait is made. Afterward, they privately externalize their thoughts, share their feelings, and tell their stories."
Details from Once: 2023 Annual Emerging Artist Exhibit.
Come by and see work from these and 13 other emerging artists. We’re here Wednesday-Sunday, 11am-5pm.
Featured work by Dylan Yarbrough, James Hosking, Lindsy Davis, and Christopher Miñan Fitzgerald.

We love how this installation work by COD professor Mara Baker energizes and brightens the hallways outside the CCMA.
Chameleon Blind is an ongoing series that Baker typically installs in vacant storefronts to give life to empty spaces and improve walkability by providing light. This series disrupts the stigma of vacant, transitional spaces. With her work, Baker aims to engage the inhabitants of these environments, and transform their daily experience.
Consider these hallways transformed!

Congratulations to Rivers, winner of Outstanding Submission to ONCE: 2023 Emerging Artist Exhibit.
“As a fourth generation female artisan, my work is always imbued with this poetic flow that connects to the past and the present as well as myself and my ancestors. And I always believe that the stories of makers are woven into the construction of historical techniques, so I try to present that in all of my works. And unpredictable and un-erasable moments in the hand making process embody the hidden tension between programming and disorder, where our connected paths can unexpectedly change. And I think that the lace map has shown what I believe.” - Rivers

Thanks, Chicago Reader! Great look into five of the Chicagoland artists featured in our show "Once: 2023 Annual Emerging Artist Exhibit".
Chicago’s art scene wouldn’t be as vibrant if we didn’t have so much new talent entering the flow each year. After all, art is about growth, change, and discovery. In its past editions, the Cleve Carney Museum of Art’s Emerging Artist Exhibit has highlighted some of the most iconic Chicagola...

"Between 2020 and 2022--a time marked by pandemic, protest, and deep political polarization--I journeyed across Alabama to survey my home state's cultural and physical landscape. By tracing the Trail of Tears, Old Federal Road, and Hernando de Soto's 1540 expedition route, the project "What Has Been Will Be Again" contends with Alabama's fraught past and present, and reveals problematic patterns at the nexus of broader American identity." - Jared Ragland

"It is through a combination of lithography and screen print that I have learned to create work that is loud and that takes up space and demands the end to political negligence. I make art for people like me to heal and to feel both seen and heard." - Alejandra Carrillo

"I began to think through the history of these pews. I wondered how many people had sat in these pews; I wanted in some way spur them on - I want to spur me on - to give more of ourselves, get out of our comfort zone, talk to people we wouldn't normally talk to, and, in the end, give them a life saver." - Zac Benson.
Come see it in person! We're here Weds-Sun, 11am-5pm.

Did you catch this detail in the Warhol exhibit? The crime scene photo after Andy was shot in June, 1968 by Valarie Solanas shows he had a July ‘68 issue of Popular Photography magazine on his desk. Warhol himself actually appeared in the June issue of the magazine that same year.
Thank you to for visiting today! It was exciting to hear from Deputy Director of the Illinois Office of Tourism Daniel Thomas about all of the wonderful things happening in DuPage County!

It's International Cat Day and a perfect day to celebrate Warhol's little-known collaboration with his mother, a limited-edition book titled "25 Cats Name Sam and One Blue Pussy." (note: the letter "d" was accidentally omitted from the word “Name,” but Andy decided to keep it regardless). Andy provided the illustrations, and his mother, Julia, provided the calligraphy. Fun Fact: the book only featured sixteen cats. Come see a collection of these illustrations on view at WARHOL through Sept. 10. Visit Warhol2023.org for more information.
