The Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County is the pre-eminent Holocaust resource on Long Island, with a contemporary museum, and is one of the largest and most comprehensive education program providers in the region. Since 2007, nearly 250,000 students, teachers, employers and law enforcement personnel have participated in the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center’s education p

rograms. The Claire Friedlander Education Institute features four fully equipped classrooms with state-of–the-art audio-visual aids and cutting edge technical equipment for specialized video-conferencing programs and a wide variety of workshops for students, adults, law enforcement personnel and staff development for educators and other professionals. With the Louis Posner Memorial Library, the Center offers over 7,000 volumes of Holocaust, genocide, multicultural, anti-bias and anti-bullying material for youth and adults, from Kindergarten through post-graduate researchers.

Looking back on an impactful event from last week, the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County proudly hosted a press conference with Tom Suozzi to unveil a bipartisan bill, co-authored with Max Miller, aimed at preventing intimidation, obstruction, and harassment of individuals exercising their right to religious worship.

HMTC Chair Alan Mindel and activist Abraham Hamra played a key role in advancing this legislation in collaboration with the Congressmen. The press conference also brought together Legislator Mazi Pilip and Jonathan Greenblatt, along with religious leaders, local mayors, and organizations including Orthodox Union, End Jew Hatred, American Jewish Committee, Hadassah, and Sid Jacobson JCC.

This marked a significant and timely moment.

The Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County held a press conference with Congressman Tom Suozzi  to unveil his Bipartisan Bill with Congressman Max Miller to prevent intimidation, obstruction, or harassment of people exercising their right to religious worship.

HMTC Chair Alan Mindel and Activist Abraham Hamra worked with the Congressmen to bring this bill forward.

Legislator Mazi Pilip and ADL’s CEO Jonathan Greenblatt joined the press conference along with religious leaders, local Mayors and organizations including the Orthodox Union, End Jew Hatred, AJC, Hadassah, SJJCC.

This was a critical moment in history.

How fitting that on Yom Ha’atzmaut, Israel’s Independence Day and 78th birthday, Ira Kohler, author of Once a Paratrooper: The Story of a Lone Soldier in the Gaza War, joined HMTC Executive Director Bali Lerner at HMTV, HMTC’s podcast studio, for an unfiltered conversation about his book. The book is now available at HMTC and will be released through retailers on April 27.

Ira Kohler, a well regarded speaker at HMTV, also met Holocaust survivor John Woolf, who was at HMTC that day speaking with students. Just a snapshot of the many busy and impactful moments happening behind the scenes at HMTC.

Last night, HMTC hosted our Annual Yom HaShoah Commemoration in partnership with and . Together, we gathered to remember, honor, and bear witness.

The evening was made especially meaningful through the powerful testimony of Holocaust survivor Bertha Strauss, whose words reminded all in attendance why remembrance is not only an act of memory, but a responsibility for future generations.
