Here’s a story behind the portrait now hanging inside the Luska J. Twyman Municipal Building.

The original oil painting of Luska J. Twyman was created more than 50 years ago by Glasgow native Clayton Louis Peden, a local artist, musician, farmer and furniture restorer.

Years ago, Twyman himself walked into Peden’s shop and spotted the portrait hanging on the wall. He liked it, with one small request for the artist: take a little of the shine off his forehead.

Clayton did.

Decades later, that same portrait has found a fitting home.

Following the July 26 dedication of the Luska J. Twyman Municipal Building, the portrait was presented by the South Central Kentucky Cultural Center and the Peden family and now hangs inside the building bearing Twyman’s name.

Clayton’s daughter, Patricia “Tricia” Peden, shares the story of her father, his art and the remarkable history behind this portrait on our website.
