Show Floor Spotlight: 𝘔𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘯'𝘴 𝘎𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘚𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘦 💰

Continuing straight towards the main show floor, you are transported to Martin's General Store, where there is a large variety of trinkets and hidden gems.

To your right, there is a large national cash register sat upon the counter top from 1910. This register is from Dayton, Ohio. It was the floor model and has on top of its original cabinet and drawers. Registers were a centerpiece of a store and a source of pride for a business hence why they are often elaborate and ornate.

To the left you will see a Gillette jail cell that came out of the old Jail on Main St. Built in 1936 as the city hall with the jail in the back. Today it is the chamber of commerce but still has a few of the old jail features behind it.

Frammed in this room there is also an orginigal first ediotion Gillette Newspaper from 1905.

Show floor spotlight: 𝘛𝘢𝘮𝘮𝘺'𝘴 𝘋𝘦𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘚𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘦. 👗
Your first turn into the main show floor is our department store! Tammy is the wife of Jeff Wandler, who owns the museum. Many of these stores represent her collection, whereas Jeff mostly collects the porcelain signs and gas pumps.
Together, their collections have turned this museum into an "Americana" museum. They capture a glimpse into the daily life of over half a century ago.
The ceramic white dog that greets you upon entrance is Nipper. Nipper was born in 1884 and was named such because he would nip at the heels of visitors. In 1900, an image of him listening intently to an Edison-Bell Cylinder phonograph was used as the trademark for RCA Victor Records. Nipper still makes appearances in different marketing materials and projects.

Show floor Spotlight: 𝘞𝘺𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘔𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘭 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘗𝘰𝘴𝘵📫
Taking a right after browsing Kerk's Barber Shop, you see a narrow door that shows one of our two neon signs from Moorecroft's Wyoming Motel, which opened its doors in the 30's.
There is also a Dahlberg Pillow Speaker from the 1950's. It's a Coin-operated personal radio. By placing the speaker unit under the user's pillow, they could listen without disturbing people nearby. The unit was mounted to the headboard of a bed in hospitals and hotels. 1 dime equaled 1 hour of radio runtime
The large mailbox units are from Edgerton's original post office in the 1940's!

It was a fabulous day to have a car show!
Thank you to all those who brought wheels and those who came to see the show, the museum & the cafe! We are so grateful for such a wonderful community, and we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did! Frontier Auto Museum Saturday July 18th from 10 to 3. Come grab a cold lemonade or a Rootbeer float and some delicious food and check out all the cool cars and trucks. Also tractor pulls down the street so lots happen in the Gillette area on Saturday.

Show floor Spotlight: 𝘉𝘢𝘳𝘣𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘱 𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯!✂️
Upon entrance into the museum your first sight is Kerk's Barbershop, you'll see two of our 1920's barber chairs, a Helene Curtis hair waver from the 1930's, and the iconic 1930'a spiral barber pole outside the shop.
The red and white spiral, (the blue was adapted in later to separate barbers and surgeons) has a quite interesting history. It can be traced back to the Middle ages, barbers didn't always just do hair and trims, they also did teeth extractions, bloodletting, and small surgeries.
Once a Barber Surgeon had completed the procedure they were working on, they would hang the bloody bandages outside and these bandages would twist and turn in the wind, forming the familiar spiral pattern!
