Happy birthday, Eddie Plank!

On this date in 1875, Gettysburg native and Hall of Fame baseball player Edward Stewart Plank was born.

Eddie played most of his career with the Philadelphia Athletics and won three World Series championships with the team. He pitched 410 complete games, notched 326 wins, and threw 2,246 strikeouts.

Beyond baseball, Eddie was a husband, a father, and beloved member of the Gettysburg community. He never forgot his roots, and his hometown has not forgotten him. His legacy lives on today, over 150 years after his birth.

“Eddie Plank was not the fastest, not the trickiest and not the possessor of the most stuff. He was just the greatest.” – Eddie Collins

Two weeks from today, we invite you to join us for an evening of remembrance and reflection at the Majestic Theater.

On Saturday, September 12th beginning at 6 p.m., there will be a screening of Paul Greengrass's "United 93" followed by a conversation with family members of the heroes of Flight 93 as well as actors from the 2006 film.

We are honored to be joined by Deborah Borza, mother of Deora Bodley. Deora was the youngest passenger aboard United Airlines Flight 93 on September 11, 2001. She was returning to California after visiting friends in New Jersey. Deora was a junior at Santa Clara University and had dreams of being a child psychologist.

Please join us as we remember Deora and the other 39 heroes of Flight 93, and reflect on their courage, sacrifice, and enduring legacy, 25 years later.

Tickets are available at: https://www.gettysburgmajestic.org/
