Our mission is to cultivate an arts-rich community. The mission of the Adams County Arts Council (ACAC) is to cultivate an arts-rich community.

Our core values are creativity, community, and connection with a focus on the future. Through scholarships, classes in fine and performing arts, and partnerships with more than 30 education, arts, policymaking, health, and social organizations, ACAC provides high-quality arts opportunities in areas that are typically underserved in the arts. ACAC uses creativity throughout Adams County to develop

and strengthen connections with residents, local businesses, policymakers, and tourists. Our educational programs, community events, and fundraising events ensure that our community can discover the arts tangibly in daily life, making the Adams County Arts Council a must-see arts destination in the region.

Join us on September 10 at 2 pm at the Arts Education Center for a community mural workshop!

We've partnered with the Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor to redesign a mural to replace the current one on the side of Dollar General in Gettysburg (2 Springs Ave).

The muralist for the project, Ophelia Chambliss, will host a workshop to gather community feedback on the design and colors of the current proposal.

Here’s a glimpse at what’s been happening in ACAC classes lately!

Students have been making stained-glass garden stakes, clay berry bowls, tomato passata with fresh pasta, and clay pocket wall planters.

Entries are now open for ACAC's 17th Annual Gingerbread Celebration!

A beloved holiday tradition returns with the 17th Annual Gingerbread Celebration and Holiday Market. Bakers enter gingerbread creations and compete for cash prizes, determined by the public and a panel of judges. Admission to see the houses is $1 for adults and free for children, which will include one house vote.

The Gingerbread Celebration competition is open to families, individuals, schools, and nonprofits for a chance to win cash prizes, and businesses and restaurants are encouraged to enter for the coveted Ginger Trophy!

A panel of judges will select:

Best of Show ($750)
Most Original Concept ($200)
Junior Baker Award for under age 14 ($200)

People will vote with their dollars to award:

People’s Choice ($500)
Best School/Nonprofit ($250)
Best Business (Ginger Trophy)

We have loved having Nancy Rehm's oil pastel work in our Studio during July and August!

Nancy Rehm is originally from Gettysburg, and now lives in Dallas, PA with her husband, David. She recently retired as a teacher after 31 years, most of which were spent in the Upper Adams School District. Nancy studied art and theatrical design at Tufts University and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. She has participated in gallery shows at the Adams County Arts Council, the Art Efekts Gallery in Pittston, and Gallery 50 in Waynesboro, as well as the Fine Arts Fiesta in Wilkes-Barre, PA, where she twice won honorable mention in their juried show.

Although she has worked in many different types of media, oil pastel is her preferred medium because of its direct, tactile quality. She draws with the pastels and uses her fingers to blend them on the paper. This allows her to vary her style and technique to express the mood and movement of the specific subject, whether abstract, landscape, or still life.

If you would like to view Nancy's work, make sure to visit the Arts Education Center this weekend before the exhibit closes.

Following the opening of Breaking Silence: A Mental Health Exhibit, join ACAC for a special community program on September 12 from 2-5 pm.

Experience powerful stories of resilience, hope, and healing through creative expression while supporting an issue that affects us all. This immersive community program features artwork from local artists, guest speakers, mental health resources and support, food and refreshments, and opportunities to learn more about the stories behind the art.

Hear from speakers such as Gettysburg's Mayor Alison Lintal, Adams County's Sheriff Fitting, the Gettysburg Police Department, the Cumberland Township Police Department, AI's Junk Removal, Deb McCauslin, and more.

The staff and Board of Directors are thrilled to announce Jessica Boyer, Ph.D. as the new Executive Director of the Adams County Arts Council! We are looking forward to this new chapter and the leadership and experience that Jessica will bring to our organization.

Prior to coming to ACAC, she served as Director of the Library at Mount St. Mary’s University, where she also served as adjunct faculty in the History Department and University Honors Program. Jessica holds a B.A. in History and German from Mount St. Mary’s University, a M.S. in Library Science from Clarion University, and a Ph.D. in Leadership from Concordia University Chicago. She lives in Gettysburg with her husband, Adam, and son, Ethan.

Featured in ACAC's Gallery in August is Bert Danielson, a photographer focusing on scenic images and some cityscapes.

Bert's images have appeared in regional publications such as Carroll Magazine and Celebrate Gettysburg, and he has shown his work locally at Gallery 30 and the Adams County Arts Council’s Juried Art Exhibition.
