The General Ridgeway Chapter of the 82nd Airborne Division Association held their monthly meeting at the Museum. These guys are "old and broken" former Paratroopers, military parachuting is not healthy for knees and backs, (this Curator can say that, as he is "old and broken," from numerous parachute jumps in the US Army). The organization is a nationwide fraternal group that promotes the history, accomplishments, spirit and camaradarie of American Paratroopers. Lets wish them good luck on their future endeavors!

KEN JOHNSON has been the VMMF Board President since 2024, after our then Board President and WWII Navy Veteran JOHN ASHBY passed away.

KEN is 101 years of age and is an amazing man. For his age, he is Mentally sharper than most people his Junior. During WWII, Ken visited England, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany and Czechoslavakia, complements of General GEORGE PATTON and the Third United States Army. KENNETH served in the 249th Engineer Battalion in Normandy, but in December, 1944, was transferred to F Company, 104th Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry Division, for the duration of the War. KEN served as Lead Scout, dodging being maimed or killed almost every day, until Wars end...

KEN is quiet, modest and hardworking, and represents all that is great about that quickly disappearing generation. He has been a good friend, confidant and supporter of the Museum for years.

Yesterday, KEN had an "administrative" emergency. After running a short errand, he locked his keys in his car. After several attempts to get a Locksmith, the Middletown Police Division, in the form of Sergeant R. AHMED, who aside from being a respected Police Patrol Supervisor, is a US Army Veteran arrived. Within minutes, the car was unlocked, and two of the Nations Veterans, from generations apart, shook hands...

Thank you to KEN, for his service to the Nation... Thank you to Sergeant R. AHMED for his service to the nation, to his community and recognizing the importance of helping the "Old" Soldier...

REECE POTTER of Germantown is one of the Museum's newer Volunteers. REECE graduated from Valley View High School and attended College, where he studied Film. After graduation, REECE headed out west, and resided in Los Angeles, where he was employed in some high tech Companies, involving film productions...

Last year REECE was drawn back to our little speck on the Planet. The Museum benefitted greatly from REECEs return, as he stepped up to volunteer at the VMMF. REECE has some very special skills with video, digital applications, and computer technology, and he has an interest in History.

Most recently, REECE digitally recorded over 150 letters, written by a WWII Soldier to his loved ones back home. We are glad to welcome REECE to our Volunteer Staff and wish him well in his endeavors back on the farm!

GARRETT BUSH of Germantown, has been one of our Volunteers for about six years. Four of those years, he was a US Army Tank Gunner, assigned to the 1st Armored Division at El Paso Texas and forward deployed to Poland...

This last year, GARRETT, transferred from active duty to the Ohio Army National Guard, where he still serves as an M-1A1 Tank Crewman. Simultaneously, he is attending EMT training at Sin Clair College while working part-time at Wright Patterson Air Force Base.

The photo depicts GARRETT not only sporting a new haircut, but posing with a Museum project he worked on for months. GARRETT restored a rare 1945 US M18 Recoiless Rifle (RR) (deactivated) to its WWII luster. The RR served in the last days of WWII and into the Korean Conflict...

Many Thanks to GARRETT for all his volunteerism, and good luck to his future successes...

The Museum supported our friends at the Germantown Historical Society in their 2026 opening day. This is held at the beautiful former Library, which is one of the old Carnegie buildings found throughout the northeastern states. There were crafts, food, music and woodcarving demonstrations.

The Museum set up a small display of memorabilia
from the old Miami Military Institute, manned by Volunteer ANDREW, as well as displaying the Museums pride and joy, our 1943 Willys Jeep in 17th Airborne Division markings.

Volunteer CRUZE dressed in the WWII Air Corps uniform of local 102 year old CONNIE GREEN, who flew P 47 Fighter Bombers in the European Theater of Operations.

Lastly, Volunteer JOE represented a Continental Soldier during the Revolution.

On 18 April, 1942 an historic event occurred during the dark days of WWII, which went largely ignored in contemporary America on the 84th anniversary of the event yesterday.

That event, the air attack on Japan, led by JIMMY DOOLITTLE, consisted of brave US Army Aircrew, launching 16 land based B-25 Medium Bombers, stripped to the bare minimum, and launched from the Aircraft Carrier Hornet, targeting industrial targets in Tokyo.

There was no return plan;after the attack, if the planes had enough fuel, they would try to crash land in China. The men were all Volunteers from all over our nation. Some made it to freedom, some were killed or wounded in the operation, and some were captured by the Japanese, tortured and executed...

The attack was strictly symbolic, to demonstrate the resolve of the United States to stand against Japan for the sneak attack at Pearl Harbor on 7 December, 1941. It demonstrated to the world, that we were coming, and we were not going to falter...

Respect and honor to the brave American Aviators of the Doolittle Raiders!

Museum Volunteer CRUZE DAVIS is wearing all original WWII Army Air Corps uniform components, and holding a scale model of a B 25 Bomber, similar to that used in the 1942 raid. The model was made by WWII Aircraft Mechanic, JOHN HOUSEMAN of Middletown, Ohio, who worked on B 24 Bombers in the CBI Theater. JOHN built almost 1100 high quality aircraft models over his lifetime. His family generously donated them to the VMMF some years ago...
