Kishwaukee Valley Heritage Society

Kishwaukee Valley Heritage Society Kishwaukee Valley Heritage Society was established in 1977 by a group of community members dedicated to preserving historical materials of the area for the future community members to know their roots. In May 1977 the Milwaukee Road Depot was moved to 622 W. Park Ave. and a caboose from Illinois Central Railroad was moved on site in 1985. Along with the Water Works building and the above mentioned structures, the museum has accessed genealogy information, artifacts from early Genoa/Kingston and surrounding area. The museum is a non-for profit 501 (c3) organization.

Support Kishwaukee Valley Heritage Society in #GiveDeKalbCounty!

May 2 is Give DeKalb County day which allows donations to Genoa Museum (Kishwaukee Valley Heritage Society) to be increased with funds already committed by corporations for the support of non-profits in DeKalb County. The more donations KVHS acquires in the 24 hours on May 2 determines the percentage of dollars that the museum can receive from the corporate donations. Donations can be given in two ways. One is by on-line donations (https://www.givedekalbcounty.org/organizations/kishwaukee-valley-heritage-society) and secondly by stopping at the DeKalb County Community Foundation 475 DeKalb Avenue Sycamore, IL 60178 (old railroad freight building).

Wonderful start by the Metal Detecting group was had last Wednesday. We searched the museum grounds which has been a play ground area for many years. Several coins were found with little historical significance. However a metal pan-like thing was discovered which is still being "noodled" to interpret what it might be. (see picture) Also a metal pipeline from the corner of the Water Works Building to the NE corner of the property. Pipe is not functional as a water source. Next metal detecting group gathering will be announced later.
