If you’ve visited or live in Gatesville, you’ve probably heard about the world-famous Lloyd & Madge Mitchell Spur Collection—and for good reason!

This incredible collection is one of the museum’s most impressive treasures, featuring an amazing variety of spurs that showcase the craftsmanship, styles, and history of the American West. From spurs belonging to legendary figures like Pancho Villa and Jacqueline Kennedy to one-of-a-kind pieces dating back to the 13th century, it's a unique collection unlike anything you've ever seen!

But spurs are just one part of everything waiting to be discovered at the Coryell Museum. In our other exhibits, you'll find fossils, antique vehicles, a double-wall log jail, and much more. There’s something for history lovers of all ages and interests to learn about and enjoy!

🤠 Come see everything for yourself! We’re open Wednesday through Saturday, 10 AM–4 PM. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated and help us continue our mission!

The Coryell Museum is more than a collection of artifacts—it’s a place where the stories of Coryell County and the people who helped shape our community can be preserved and shared with future generations!

One of the things that makes our museum special is that we are run by volunteers. From welcoming visitors and leading tours to maintaining exhibits, organizing events, managing the gift shop, and working behind the scenes, our volunteers give their time, knowledge, and talents to keep the museum going. We truly couldn’t do it without them!

Our mission depends on the generosity of our volunteers, visitors, sponsors, members, and donors. Donations help us maintain the museum, preserve our collections, create educational experiences, and continue offering free admission so everyone has the opportunity to experience local history.
