It's Texas Independence Day! This day honors the signing of the Texas Declaration of Independence at Washington-on-the Brazos. As Colonel William B. Travis and the brave defenders of the Alamo withstood Santa Anna’s army, the fifty-nine delegates representing each of the Texas colonies and municipalities gathered in Convention and declared Texas an independent nation. An ad-interim government was elected with David G. Burnet as President and Lorenzo de Zavala as Vice-President. A Constitution was adopted on March 17, 1836. The image below is of the sign the Sidney Sherman Chapters, DRT and SRT used in the decoration of the Texas Heroes Monument in Galveston over the weekend. Drive by to see it!
