What an incredible time we had at our Golden Hour Gospel Brunch this past Sunday! The talented Stinson Family graced us with their soulful sounds, and we were moved by the powerful spoken word of Prophetic Poet Lady Ki. A huge shoutout to Chef Queen Creole Cuisines for the delectable brunch that brought everyone together!
September is National Gospel Music Heritage Month, a time to honor the rich history and cultural impact of gospel music in America. From its roots in field hollers to its influence on modern genres, gospel music has played a significant role in shaping our cultural identity.
Alvin V. Williams championed the observance by researching gospel’s roots—from field hollers and spirituals to modern styles—and working with industry leaders to gain congressional support.
In 2008, House Joint Resolution 12 and Senate Resolution 12 designated September as Gospel Music Heritage Month. The legislation was introduced by Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) and Senator Blanche Lincoln (D-AR), with support from the Gospel Music Association, the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, and the Kennedy Center.
Let’s continue to empower the culture and celebrate the dream through our initiatives focused on Art & Culture, Education, Family and Community, and Honors and History. Join us as we recognize the deep connections gospel music has with the African American experience and its pivotal role in the Civil Rights Movement.
