☀️Even though it’s hot and sunny today, we know the rain will come again🌧️, and when it does, the artifacts stored in our museum basement will be better protected and kept dry!

Thanks in part to support from the Tennessee State Museum and the State of Tennessee’s Maintenance and Improvements Grant, we were able to make much-needed improvements to address drainage and water concerns at the museum.

These improvements included pouring a new concrete slab beneath our heating and air unit that directs water away from the museum, installing a new drain to help prevent water from entering the building, and adding a generator to keep our water-prevention systems running in the event of a power outage during a storm.⛈️

These may not be the most glamorous museum improvements, but they are incredibly important ones!

We are grateful for the Tennessee State Museum and the State of Tennessee for investing in the preservation of Sumner County’s history! 👏

With her unmistakable voice, heart, and Tennessee roots, Dolly Parton touched the world in more ways than we could ever count.

And Sumner County holds a special piece of that story. Back in the day, Dolly’s records were shipped around the world from Randy’s Record Shop right here in Gallatin, Tennessee.📦🌎

From a small-town record shop to radios and record players across the globe, the voice of a Tennessee mountain girl traveled farther than she could have ever imagined.

Dolly showed us that making history isn’t just about fame or success. It’s about the lives you touch, the kindness you share, and what you leave behind.

May we all carry a little piece of Dolly with us: be kind, dream big, and be a HISTORY MAKER in your own way.💗

We’re only SIX Saturdays away from the 30th Annual Candlelight Cemetery Tour!🕯️We caught up with County Historian Ken Thomson to share more about the history behind this beloved annual tradition and the work that has gone into bringing Sumner County’s stories to life for three decades.

Did you know Ken has been a part of writing the scripts for the Cemetery Tour for all 30 years?! 🤯 His passion for local history has helped piece together the genealogy, family connections, and stories shared each year on the first Saturday in October. Much of that history comes from decades of research and his memory!
