The front door may be locked during open hours in order to control visitation capacity and/or when staff are unable to man the front desk area due to other center tasks. We will also close to the public during scheduled programming with groups. Please ring the doorbell or call for entry during open hours, 620-783-5207.
**Creek Swimmers: Please COMPLETELY DRY off and wear clothing over swimming at
tire to enter the nature center. NO SHIRT/COVER-UP=NO ENTRY
WET/DAMP CLOTHING=NO ENTRY. Wet/Muddy shoes must be left outside. The Southeast Kansas Nature Center is located in Schermerhorn Park and operated by the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks, and Tourism's wildlife education section. The nature center features live animal exhibits, hands-on exploration drawers and displays, a live beehive, bird-watching area, environmental education videos, and much more. A few things to remember when visiting the center:
-Entry is free.
-No pets are allowed in the building.
-Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
-Folks who have been in the creek must dry off before entering the building. You may leave wet shoes outside.
-You must have clothes or coverups over swimming attire before entering.
-Running, rough-housing, and bad language are not tolerated in the building.
-Do not tap or touch animal enclosures, and please do not try to make animals move. We will remind all visitors to be respectful of our animal ambassadors.
-Please finish food/drinks outside, you will be asked to leave them at the front counter while visiting the center.
