Where did September go? I don't know about you, but it feels to me like the semester is flying by at warp speed this year! October or not - I want to share a summer story inspired by Megan Kassabaum, one of our guest speakers last spring. We took a family trip to see some of the Hopewellian Earth Mounds in Newark, Ohio while visiting grandparents this summer. It was a bit of a road trip for a day's visit, but my eight-year-old daughter loved it and so did we! (Pictured here: My daughter at the Great Circle Earth Works and we three at the Erie Canal. We also visited the jaguar-shaped earth work Megan discussed in her talk!) Did your summer travels take you to any archaeological sites??

We hope you enjoyed William Murray's presentation about his academic and personal adventures over the past 40 years in pursuit of remains from the Battle of Actium. If you missed it, please consider joining the Gainesville Society of the Archaeological Institute of America! It is only because of local members, that we are able to fund international speakers of this caliber. We have great rates for grad students and seniors!

Our next talk will be presented digitally on April 7th at 6:30pm and features Megan Kassabaum, Assistant Professor at the University of Pennsylvania discussing, "Underwater Panthers and their Place in the American Cosmos." Please watch for the event link here on Facebook or via email from our secretary, Megan Daly.
