S&S Telephone Museum

S&S Telephone Museum The S&S Telephone Museum is a privately owned collection of telephones and related equipment belonging to Larry and Eric Salter.

Our displays include but are not limited to a wide variety of telephones, switchboards, telephone booths, switching equipment, and tools. We have examples from many manufacturers and eras. Many of our telephones on display work and are hooked up to one of the museum's switchboards or switching systems. The museum is open on the first weekend in May each year during Fulton's Dutch Days festival. Tours can be made by appointment any time.

This is our Western Electric 755A crossbar PBX placing a station to station call. Forgive the quality of the video, I used my old digital camera and it was very difficult to do one handed. I will try to take a better one in a few days. I had to dial "8" on a Strowger system first to access the crossbar. That is what you hear when i first start the call.

A friend found us the 1956 Fulton directory at a local estate sale about a year ago and just today we received a 1955 Clinton directory to go along with it. Old directories are pretty difficult to find, so we are pretty excited to have a near matching set like this.

Here is the museum's newest acquisition. It's a KS 19580 Airlight II telephone booth originally from the Dubuque area. It appears to be from May 1965. It would have originally had a door, but that was removed long ago. I think this booth is in excellent condition considering it sat outside for almost 50 years. This photo was taken just after we fixed the lights and turned it on for the first time.
