Happy Sunday Everyone!

The Warren Heritage Society will be on a Winter schedule through April 1st. What does that mean?

There will be no tours of the buildings and the archives will be open only on Wednesday evenings between 4-8 pm or by appointment. To make an appointment, email [email protected]. Please include your contact information and your preferred date and time. We will make every effort to accommodate your request.

Just because we're closed doesn't mean there won't be things happening at the Warren Heritage Society. We'll be taking the next 6 weeks to do some necessary maintenance of the buildings and organizing of the archives.

We're working hard on plans for the year and there are many exciting programs and events on the horizon. We'll need your help and have plenty of volunteer opportunities available. Reach out to us at [email protected] if you'd like to hear more.

We look forward to seeing you in the Spring.

Did you know?

It's National Spouses Day! Did you know Patrick Henry had two wives?

Patrick first married Sarah Shelton in 1754 at Rural Plains, the Shelton family home in Hanover County, Virginia. The couple enjoyed 21 years of marriage and six children before Sarah's untimely death in 1775.

Two years later, Patrick re-married to Dorothea Spotswood Dandridge, a granddaughter of the former Royal Governor of Virginia, Alexander Spotswood. Dorothea and Patrick were married for 22 years – producing 11 children – until his death in 1799.

Who We Are

The Warren Heritage Society is the Warren County/Front Royal Community’s historical society, museum and archives. Established as a non-profit organization in 1971, the Warren Heritage Society has held the Shenandoah Valley’s Festival of Leaves since that year.

The Society periodically collected and displayed artifacts of local history in the Courthouse Square Law Offices, c. 1836, from the late 1960’s-1980’s, at which point, the c. 1819 Ivy Lodge β€” formerly the town library β€” became home for the museum’s exhibits. The Ivy Lodge Museum exhibits on town and county history, which include both permanent and annually rotating exhibits, was completely renovated in 2003. Ivy Lodge today also offers visitors a Gift Shop and Book Store specializing in local history, traditions, and crafts.

Have a look around our website (http://warrenheritagesociety.org/) to learn more about us and what we do. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us!
