Mother Nature has a wicked sick sense of humor! Couple days ago it was all sunny and spring is finally coming. This afternoon she said April Fools Suckers! Ground still too soft to drive so back to wheeler rides in a blizzard.

This crazy frost and the fact that it’s so cold your nose hairs freeze together as soon as you go outside is why it’s important to take the seat in behind the stove between outhouse trips! Plus side to cold clear days the views are amazing!

Tis the season! Haying season that is! Make hay while the sun is shining for this one week. It’s been a crazy week for these workers but they keep at it.

Last weekend the spruce pollen in the air was crazy! The yellow haze across the bay is pollen being blown off the trees and into the air. Refilled the pool and it too was covered in pollen too!

It’s that time of year again! The road is finally open and people can call to schedule a visit or tour!

So the homestead is doing tours by appointment Tuesday-Saturday at 10am Call to schedule with our caretaker! (907)235-8713
This is the time for a regular $35 one hour tour of the main homestead cabin and a talk on the history of the homestead and family’s beginnings in Alaska! There are occasional $65 special tours that can take about three hours and include main homestead tour plus a guided tour of other public parts of homestead and down to the beach which can end with a bring your own picnic there. These private tours can involve a lot of walking. Kelli and Shane will be helping with these special tours whenever they can. Call with questions or to schedule!

Beautiful windy spring day on the homestead!

The homestead is closed for the winter. Not sure what website someone was looking at but the family does not have an official website. The number listed here is the only one to contact the homestead directly. Please use that number before trying to visit. This person was also upset there is a no RV sign beyond a certain point. So again call first and make sure to ask about special accessibility needs. It’s a rough dirty narrow space so we don’t allow RVs down it.
