A New Way To Support Your Favorite Native Museum On The Outer Banks!

We've been hard at work on the website and we've got a bunch of new products! Stickers, t-shirts, hoodies, drink coozies, and MORE that ship directly to your door!

All items (with exception of the puzzles) are printed by a small business also in Eastern North Carolina too!

> Get a sticker with our 40th Anniversary to put on a new water bottle

> Order a moth night shirt and wear it to our event at the end of June

> Pick up a drawstring bag with the popular "We Are All Related" design to gather shells from the beach.

We've got something for everyone!

Want something and don't see it available? Drop a comment and our design lady will try and work her magic!

We had an unexpected treat Tuesday afternoon.

The last visitors of the day were two lovely women, Andrea and Margie. Sisters coming to vacation and check out the museum.

Andrea was looking at the flutes we recently got in from Joe Mareka (you may recall we posted him playing for us recently as well). When she asked permission to play, we didn't expect her to give the flute such a lovely voice!

She played several songs for us as she debated whether she and the gorgeous flute of maple with turquoise inlay were destined for each other.

As she continued to deliberate, she told us how she's part of a group larger group with tribal connections that helps indigenous women rediscover their connection outside of Western views of womanhood!

When she made the final decision to make the flute a new companion, she graciously allowed us to video a song to share with all of you.

We hope you enjoy the experience from wherever you are as much as we did!

Amber's been working on our online shop and we've got a really cool new collection of things! Stainless steel tumblers, drawstring bags, shirts, and even a brand new mug design!

Don't worry, we've got some of the classics too. 😉

Some listed items are only available online, but everything will ship straight to you! Added bonus? Most items are printed right here in North Carolina!

We'll be uploading some more soon, so make sure to check back with us! Have any suggestions of things you'd like to see? Let us know and we'll see what we can do!

All About Wampum

May 11th is National Day of the Bead, so let's talk about the most infamous bead from the East Coast, Wampum! What was it? The word "Wampum" actually comes from the Nanhigganeuck (Narragansett) word wampumeag and literally means 'white shell beads'. Though often thought to be the name of the quahog clam shell, it originially only meant the small disk shaped beads made out of shell....

National Public Gardens Week

It's National Wildflower Week and we're all about growing native species! You may recall that last year, we partnered with Backyard Butterflies and Wooden Sea Tree Care to put in a pollinator garden. Backyard Butterflies donated 150 native plants and Wooden Sea Tree Care donated mulch. We put in so much work between staff and volunteers to make the space ready and then putting in the plants....
