We are pleased to continue exhibiting Evgenia Parasdanian’s art! In this Armenian Cultural Heritage month, one of our objectives is to bring people together at the Armenian Museum of Fresno. The AMF is the hob between the past, present and the future generations. While the Armenian Museum of Fresno celebrates the people, stories and traditions that connect our Armenian heritage to the history of the Central Valley, we also bring to you fine art created by Armenians from other parts of the world! Their stories, like ours, are part of one global cultural experiance that transcends borders. Parasdanian’s art speaks of earth, life, irony and elemental humanity – very much like ours – rooted in tradition, inspired by culture, and expressed with unmistakable authenticity. We invite you to come and experience her “voice that leaves a lasting impact! “

🇦🇲 Armenian Cultural Heritage Month is a wonderful time to experience Armenian culture — and that includes the food!

Have you ever tried Armenian mezza? Mezza is a delicious assortment of small dishes meant to be shared, often enjoyed with family and friends gathered around the table. Depending on the occasion, you might find hummus, cheeses, olives, stuffed grape leaves, fresh vegetables, dips, breads and other traditional favorites.

Like so many Armenian traditions, mezza is about more than food. It’s about hospitality, conversation, and bringing people together. ❤️

The Armenian Museum of Fresno often serves Armenian mezza at our exhibition opening receptions, giving visitors another way to experience Armenian culture while enjoying the art.

And you’ll have a chance to try some at our upcoming opening of Remembering the Art and Life of Robin Armen Dolarian on Friday, October 23, from 5–8 p.m. at the Armenian Museum of Fresno.

Come for the art, enjoy some Armenian mezza and experience a little Armenian hospitality! 🇦🇲

🇦🇲 Armenian Cultural Heritage Month is also a celebration of our Central Valley story.

For generations, Armenian families have helped shape Fresno and the Central Valley through agriculture, business, faith, education, literature, the arts, and community life.

Many came to the Valley carrying with them the traditions, language, faith and culture of their homeland. As they built new lives here, they preserved that heritage and passed it from one generation to the next, while making lasting contributions to the community we share today.

Throughout October, the Armenian Museum of Fresno celebrates the people, stories and traditions that connect our Armenian heritage to the history of the Central Valley.

THE ARMENIAN-GREEK PAPYRUS

The Armenian-Greek Papyrus is a rare manuscript containing Greek text written in Armenian letters. Created in Byzantine Egypt sometime between the fifth and seventh centuries, it is the oldest surviving manuscript written in Armenian script and the only known papyrus using the Armenian alphabet.

French scholar Auguste Carrier acquired the papyrus in Egypt in the late 19th century, likely after its discovery in El Fayum. Armenian Mekhitarist scholars began studying and publishing portions of the text in the 1890s, but the original manuscript was later lost.

In 1993, American scholar Dikran Kouyoumdjian rediscovered the papyrus in the Oriental Manuscripts Collection of the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris, along with a complete transcription apparently made by Carrier.

Scholars have dated the manuscript to between the creation of the Armenian alphabet around 400 and the Arab conquest of Egypt in 640. Based on its letterforms and linguistic features, researchers believe it most likely dates to the late fifth or sixth century, making it an extraordinary surviving example of the Armenian alphabet’s earliest centuries.

Created over nearly three years, this publication uses photography and research to document the remarkable cross-stones of Noratus and preserve the voices, faith and heritage they embody.

🇦🇲 Armenian Cultural Heritage Month continues at the Armenian Museum of Fresno!

Join us tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. as photographer and author David Karamian presents his latest publication, Eternal Armenia: Khatchkars — The Cross Stones of Noratus: Sacred Symbols, Forgotten Voices, and the Echoes of the Faith.

Nearly three years in the making, this remarkable project documents the khatchkars — Armenia’s intricately carved cross-stones — of Noratus through Karamian’s photography and research.

More than beautiful works of art, these sacred monuments are enduring expressions of Armenian faith, history and cultural identity. Karamian’s work helps preserve their stories and bring greater awareness to this important part of Armenian heritage.

Now on view at ZARTONK Gallery: Step 3 of Landscape Memories by Hazel Antaramian.

Through image, movement, and memory, Landscape Memories explores the profound connection between people, homeland, and the landscapes they carry with them.

The project begins with the footprints of Armenian folk dancers moving across unprimed canvas to traditional Armenian music, leaving behind physical traces of movement and cultural memory. Antaramian builds upon these marks with layers of color and form inspired by traditional Armenian woven carpets, creating landscapes shaped by both geography and remembrance.

Landscape Memories will be on view during ArtHop in November and December 2026, and January 2027, at ZARTONK Gallery, 1107 Fulton St. in downtown Fresno, or by appointment. Call the museum (559) 224-1001 to schedule your visit!

On Friday, October 9, photographer and author David Karamian will present his latest publication, Eternal Armenia: Khatchkars — The Cross Stones of Noratus: Sacred Symbols, Forgotten Voices, and the Echoes of the Faith, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Armenian Museum of Fresno.

Nearly three years in the making, Karamian’s book documents the extraordinary khatchkars, or Armenian cross-stones, of Noratus. Through photography and research, the project seeks to preserve and bring greater awareness to these sacred monuments and their importance to Armenian cultural and Christian heritage.

Congratulations to Hazel Antaramian Hofman, on another successful exhibition! Visitors packed Zartonk gallery to view Antaramian's artistic display of Landscaped Memories, Step III - footprints of her family's migration history.
