The Society of Sons and Daughters of WWII Veterans is proud to welcome Sandra F. Youndt Styer. She joins to honor her father Corporal Lester L. Youndt.

Corporal Lester L. Youndt served with honor in the 4th Marine Division, 3rd Battalion, 23rd Regiment, K Company during World War II. A skilled sharpshooter and small arms mechanic, he also served as a scout in some of the fiercest fighting in the South Pacific. On July 3, 1944, during the Battle of Saipan, he was gravely wounded by enemy sniper fire—a moment he would later describe as “the shot that saved my life.” His courage, resilience, and quiet humility defined him long after the war. Though he spoke little of his experiences, his service left an enduring legacy of strength and perseverance for his family and all who knew him.

We’re proud to help keep his legacy alive through his daughter's membership. 🪖🌟

We are proud to welcome Sharon Ferguson Fulford Snuggs, Brian W. Fulford, and Easton J. Fulford into the Society of Sons and Daughters of WWII Veterans. They join to honor the service and sacrifice of their father, grandfather and great-grandfather, SGT Cecil Talmage Ferguson of the United States Army Air Forces.

SGT Ferguson was a Power Turret and Gunsight Specialist. He inspected, maintained, and repaired all types of locally controlled power turrets and the component parts of such units including automatic computing sights, electric motors, gear boxes and trains, and hydraulic systems. He was a part of the 84th Repair Squadron stationed in North Africa and Italy.

Raised in rural Central Texas, he was used to his mother’s country cooking and found military food hard to adjust to—especially during ship transport. While stationed in Italy, he and his friends enjoyed leave along the coast near Vieste, exploring local cafés and nearby sites.

We’re proud to help keep his legacy alive through his daughter, grandson, and great-grandson's membership. 🪖🌟

We are proud to welcome Brittany Breann Garrison Hodgson into the Society of Sons and Daughters of WWII Veterans. Brittany joins to honor the service and sacrifice of her grandfather, S/SGT James Allen Edwards of the United States Army.

S/SGT Edwards received the Presidential Unit Citation as a member of the First Emergency Rescue Squadron for heroic service in the North African and Mediterranean Theaters in 1944. The squadron, with only nine aircraft, made ten successful sea rescues, saving twenty-one Allied airmen under heavy fire and adverse conditions.

After his service, he returned to his family farm, worked the coal mines until retirement, and did carpentry. He built his house, the barns, the garage and smaller projects like the family's swing and wood crafts. He used his marksman training to hunt and track deer, a hobby he kept with his brother. He also had a small collection of twenty or so cameras from all years and different styles.

We’re proud to help keep his legacy alive through his granddaughter's membership. 🪖🌟
