For 75 years, HCTC has been connecting the Texas Hill Country and beyond. 💚

Welcome to another Member Monday, where we celebrate the diverse businesses and organizations that help our community thrive and recognize the members who make the Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce so special.

HCTC’s story began in 1951, when 975 members came together to bring telephone service to rural Texas communities often overlooked by larger providers. From a small office in Fredericksburg, the cooperative has grown to serve more than 15,000 subscribers, with its home now in Ingram and its roots still firmly planted in the Texas Hill Country.

Today, HCTC connects communities across the Hill Country and West Texas with fiber-to-the-premise and fixed wireless service, including fiber speeds up to 8 Gig. Behind every connection are local crews building fiber, completing installations, maintaining the network, and working every day to keep their neighbors connected across a large and often rugged service area.

But HCTC’s story has always been about more than technology. It’s about people. It’s about community. And it’s about a cooperative that lives, works, and raises families in many of the same communities it serves.

Technology has changed tremendously over the past 75 years, and the needs of rural communities will continue to evolve. What hasn’t changed is HCTC’s commitment to its members and neighbors — providing outstanding service, modern technology, and a genuine investment in the communities it calls home.

Welcome to another Member Monday, where we celebrate the diverse businesses and organizations that help our community thrive and recognize the members who make the Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce so special.

The 138th Gillespie County Fair kicks off Thursday, August 27, bringing a weekend of family fun and celebration to the Texas Hill Country. The four-day event will showcase the charm of Gillespie County and its warm hospitality, with activities for visitors of all ages.

Highlights will include an exciting carnival and midway, classic fair food, livestock judging, agricultural and household exhibits, arts and crafts, a washer-pitching tournament, antique tractor displays, and live pari-mutuel horse racing.

Did you know that the Gillespie County Fair Association and the Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce have shared a longstanding relationship?

The second slide features a newspaper clipping from 1934, when the Chamber and Fair Association partnered to sponsor a free canning class at the then Nimitz Hotel (now, National Museum of the Pacific War )!

Today, that partnership continues in a new way. The Chamber hosts its annual banquet at the Gillespie County Fairgrounds—the largest event hosted by the Chamber each year!

This 2021 Wag’n Tails grooming conversion offers everything a traditional salon has, including heat and A/C, temperature-controlled water, and a stainless steel tub, all in a comfortable mobile setting. With the door locked during every groom, tools disinfected between dogs, and no cages, every pup receives one-on-one attention in a calm, clean environment. Each dog is hand-dried—never cage-dried—and never exposed to a room full of barking strangers or the risk of kennel cough.

Welcome to another Member Monday, where we celebrate the diverse businesses and organizations that help our community thrive and recognize the members who make the Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce so special.

In honor of Back to School, today we are showcasing one of Gillespie County’s favorite nonprofits, The Friends of Gillespie County Country Schools, Inc. The Friends boast stewardship of 12 still-standing rural schools and have a year’s worth of open houses and events to showcase the history of education in Gillespie County. Can’t make an open house? The schools are open year-round, just take their driving or biking trail!

The Friends of Gillespie County Country Schools are dedicated to preserving the rural schools, community traditions, and rich history of Gillespie County for future generations. Through historic preservation, community events, fundraisers, and the Gillespie County Country Schools Trail, the organization keeps these special places and stories alive.

Visitors can explore the school’s trail year-round, visit the White Oak School at the Pioneer Museum, attend annual events, or support the preservation efforts through a tax-deductible donation.
