Do you ever wonder why artists choose to create? Frederic Arts is pleased to continue its popular series of free Art Talks by area artists that will help us understand one another – not just how we work, but why we choose artistic expression. These informal events will include visual presentations with time for questions, and will be held at the Frederic Art Center, from 7-8 p.m., on the following Thursdays: Sept. 10, Carol Adleman; Oct. 8, Barbara Riegel Bend; Nov. 12, Michael Whiteside. Come, learn, and enjoy.

Carol Adleman, the September featured artist, works with both collage and cyanotype and often combines them into works on fabric and paper. She has worked in her Luck home studio for over 25 years and she is always interested in trying new ways to express herself in art as she explores the variety of sources around her. Influences in her work include Hans Hoffman, Sean Scully and Richard Diebenkorn. Over the years her work has been shown in juried shows around the country and is now shown in two local galleries, One 10 Gallery in Frederic and ArtZ in Amery. Join us, as we welcome Carol to the Art Talks!

Bring your imagination to life with The Art of Shadow Puppetry!

Discover the magic of storytelling through light, shadow, and movement in this four-week workshop with instructor Michael Sommers. You'll learn to design and build your own shadow puppets, create an original story, and perform a tabletop shadow play for family and friends at the final class.

Fridays: Sept. 19, 26 & Oct. 3, 10

Whether your story is whimsical, mysterious, or completely unexpected, this class will introduce you to an ancient art form that's as creative and captivating today as ever.

Please note: A minimum of 4 students is required for the class to run.

Ready to spend some time creating with glass? Join us for our monthly Open Glass Studio! Work on your own stained, fused, or mosaic glass projects with an assistant on site to help.

Some glass experience is required. This is not a class. Materials and tools are available for an additional fee of approximately $15–$20, or you may bring your own.
