We are a non-profit organization operated by part-time volunteers. The Ischua Valley Historical Society, housed at the Miner's Cabin, is located at 9 Pine Street in Franklinville, New York. Our Communities include: Farmersville Franklinville Ischua Lyndon Machias We are available by appointment for tours, as well as genealogical and historical research. If you are traveling to the area, please call 716-676-2590 to make arrangements before you arrive to ensure that someone will be available to open the facility and assist you. This year we are open on Sundays starting June 3rd through August 26th from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. We will also be open Wednesdays starting the July 11th through August 29th from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM. We are closed during the months of January, February, and March. Our September program is as follows.... Former County Legislator McElfresh will be giving a talk on unusual and little-known facts about Cattaraugus County on Sept. 3, Thursday, at 7 pm at the Miner's Cabin located at 9 Pine Street, Franklinville. Light refreshments will be offered at the conclusion of his presentation All are welcome, and there is no charge. Please plan to join us for an hour or so this next Thursday, Sept 3.

Who do YOU think YOU are?

The Ischua Valley Historical Society will be holding their annual picnic at the Miner's Cabin at 6 p.m. On Thursday, July 2. The topic of discussion will be “Who Do You Think You Are” which deals with DNA and using it for genealogical purposes.

The Miner's Cabin is located at 9 Pine Street in Franklinville. Bring your own table service and a dish to pass for the picnic. Bring a lawn chair, if the weather permits, the picnic will be held out of doors!

Meetings are open to the public.

The IVHS would personally like to thank all of the dedicated volunteers for helping pull off such an awesome event and also we would like to thank the attendees for coming to the event this afternoon, I think we all had a lot of fun despite the rain!

Come join us at the cemetery in Cadiz this Sunday at Noon for the huge event of the year featuring a dedication and unveiling of the new historic sign for the cemetery will be revealed! As a part of the event folks will be telling the stories of the people of Cadiz right at their graves, horse drawn wagon rides from the cemetery to the Howe Prescott House where more folks will be telling stories of the people of Cadiz, a demonstration of how they used to make roofing shingles, and much more! It starts at 12PM with a picnic and music!

Absolutely wonderful presentation by Michael Keene last night at the Miner's Cabin featuring orphan trains followed by dessert with fresh apple cider made right on the spot with an old fashioned cider press! Thank you to all who came out to the event, we certainly had a great time!

Thursday, October 2, 2014 - Presentation by Michael Keene, author - he will talk about orphan trains that took so many street children (homeless/orphans?)west to find homes. All our programs are free and open to the public and we invite everyone to attend and enjoy the talk and light refreshments. 7 pm at the Miner's Cabin at 9 Pine Street, Franklinville. We hope to see you there!

Open invitation to anyone interested and able to attend the IVHS annual picnic this Wednesday, July 10 at 6 pm at the Miner's Cabin, 9 Pine Street, Franklinville. We'll have the picnic rain or shine, and hopefully outside, but if rained out or the yard is a swamp we'll picnic inside. The event is free and open to everyone. We will be having Al Fish, our Village Code Officer, doing a presentation on rail splitting, emulating Abraham Lincoln in his earlier years. You do not have to be a member to attend, although we'd love to have you as a member. Bring all your friends and relatives. The hot dogs and drink are provided but please bring a dish to share. We look forward to seeing you there!

Please join us on Saturday, May 18th at the Howe- Prescott Pioneer House to celebrate the history of Cadiz, New York! The circa 1814 home is located at 3031 Route 98 South and is one of the two museums of the IVHS. Festivities will be from 2:00 to 4:00 PM! Hope to see you there!
