The Johnson County Museum of History houses over 57,000 objects, photos, and documents relating to Johnson County. Featured & permanent exhibits tell the stories of Johnson County and nearby regions. Our library houses research materials, including genealogical and county records, many of which are original documents. We offer fun and educational events for children, young professionals, and learners of all ages.

The deadline for History Camp is May 31! Don't miss out on this great opportunity for students who have finished 3rd or 4th grade. The camp will run from June 22-26.

Today on Memorial Day we remember those who have lost their lives in service to our country. Widely attributed to a commemoration in 1868 to honor Civil War dead, it was originally called Decoration Day. Expanded after World War I to include all service members who had died, it became known as Memorial Day and became a federal holiday in 1971. This picture is of the Courthouse Lawn display in 1973 honoring those in Johnson County who have lost their lives.

It’s Karen the Curator, and it’s time for ! This week is and I found these three things to share with you!
1.) This is an Army Air Force olive drab service dress coat that was owned by Alice Handy Grubbs. Alice was a nurse during WWII and was stationed at St. Petersburg, Florida.
2.) Here is a gold-colored Army Nurse’s pin that was owned by Major Hellen Callon who served during WWII.
3.) This photograph was taken by Herbert Harris at the Masonic Temple Lodge 107. The lodge served the Red Cross during WWII.
