The Captain William Lytle Chapter, DAR, in partnership with Linebaugh Library, are hosting the American Revolution Experience in Murfreesboro, TN. This is an excellent exhibit created by the American Battlefield Trust. Go check it out while it is on display June 3-10! Did you know that the Williamson County Archives has land grant records?

Shown here is a certified copy from 1827 of a land grant to the heirs of William Craigg. The heirs received this land grant for Craigg’s military service during the Revolutionary War. The original grant was dated 1783, and the 640 acres are described as lying on the waters of the Harpeth River.

Many of the early military land grants pertaining to the modern state of Tennessee were granted by the State of North Carolina. Tennessee became a state in 1796, marking it as the 16th state of the USA.
