Happy Fair week! Stop by our booth at the Fillmore County Fair this week in the commercial building. Take a guess at identifing what we have in our mystery boxes, see if you can find the ending of some stories from the museum, or try locating your ancestors from the townships copied from our recently digitized 1878 Fillmore County Map!

Registration is now open for our second year of Prairie School! This year we are excited to have four days of fun, from Tuesday, August 11 to Friday, August 14th. You can visit our event's page on our website, or scan the QR code in the file below to register your child.

REMINDER!! There are only 15 slots available, and they are reserved when we receive the registration fee, $40 for the four days. Children are encouraged to dress up in prairie style costumes, but it is not required.

A couple of lawn chairs were left behind after our big celebration on Sunday. If anyone recognizes these, they are waiting to be picked up during the museum's open hours!

🗺️ One of the highlights of Sunday’s Family Fun 250th Celebration was the unveiling of the newly reproduced 1878 Fillmore County plat map!

Thanks to our partnership with the Minnesota Digital Library, you can now explore the map online for free. The enlarged reproduction is also now on display at the Fillmore County Historical Society Museum.

A map nearly 150 years old is about to go public.

We're excited to unveil the historic 1878 map at our 250th Celebration on Sunday July 5th, 2026. The original map is in our archives and will be preserved. However, the reproduced map to be unveiled will ensure the information is available for researchers and history buffs alike! The unveiling will take place toward the end of the program that begins at 2 pm.

Other activities for the day will include teasers for Prairie School, scavenger hunts, old fashioned games, and a treasure hunt! Come celebrate America's 250th birthday at the Fillmore County's Museum in Fountain!

The Fillmore County Historical Society will unveil a newly reproduced 1878 Fillmore County Plat Map during its July 5th Celebration of America in Fountain. The event includes historic presentations, music, exhibits and family activities.
