New Museum Hours

Starting this week, the Gordon Parks Museum along with the campus at Fort Scott Community College will observe new museum hours:

🕗 Monday–Thursday: 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
🕗 Friday: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

We invite you to visit and explore the life and legacy of Gordon Parks through our exhibitions, photographs, personal artifacts, and special displays. To schedule a group tour or for more information, please contact the museum at (620) 223-2700, ext. 5850.

The Gordon Parks Museum will be closed June 29 through July 3, 2026, along with the campus at Fort Scott Community College for the Fourth of July break.

The museum will re-open for regular summer hours on July 6, 2026.

It was great having the Lowell Milken Center for Unsung Heroes Fellows here for a tour!

📸 The 2026 LMC Fellows spent part of Day 2 visiting the Gordon Parks Museum, where they learned about the life and legacy of Gordon Parks and received professional headshots from photographer Kenny Felt.

Thank you to Theressa Rice for a great presentation for the Juneteenth Celebration Lunch and Learn Event, "Food for the Journey: Kansas Stories" and Humanities Kansas for the support of this wonderful event. "FOOD FOR THE JOURNEY: KANSAS STORIES"
Join us on June 19th, 2026 at The Danny and Willa Ellis Family Fine Arts Center, as we host Theressa Rice for a presentation of “Food for the Journey: Kansas Stories.” As African Americans made their way to Kansas, what foods came with them?

Theressa Rice’s presentation is rooted in stories – stories from her history, her grandparents’ farm, her family’s migration from Oklahoma and Texas, and the food that graced the table for Sunday Supper once they reached their destination. Some stories might sound familiar – hunting for rabbits, frying up chickens, boiling potatoes dug straight from the ground, and picking berries off the vine to make into a delicious pie. Audience members will connect to these timeless traditions that stretch across generations (and maybe even get a slice of homemade pie to try).

This event is made possible by Humanities Kansas as part of “By the People: Beyond 250,” an initiative of the Federation of State Humanities Councils and the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage.

Discover The Gordon Parks Museum Through the 2026 Kansas Sunflower Summer Program

The Gordon Parks Museum is proud to announce its participation in the 2026 Kansas Tourism Sunflower Summer program. The Sunflower Summer Program is a benefit for Kansas families with school-aged children, pre-K through Grade 12, to encourage them to explore, and fall in love with Kansas. The program is designed to give affordable access to tourism attractions across the state and support the Kansas tourism economy.
