Manatee Center We are a manatee resource center in downtown Fort Pierce with a gift shop, indoor exhibit hall, and outdoor waterfront deck area. King Power Plant.

We host field trips and small groups tours. The Manatee Observation and Education Center is a waterfront environmental education and wildlife viewing center located on Florida's east coast in beautiful downtown Fort Pierce. We are a not-for-profit organization operated by three full-time staff members, two part-time staff members, and nearly 100 volunteers. The Center lies just west of the Atlanti

c ocean and straddles the nationally recognized Indian River Lagoon, a saltwater estuary, and Moore's Creek, a freshwater tributary. The site is a historical congregating place for Florida manatees as a result of warm water effluence from the long-retired Henry B. While the plant is no longer there, it continues to be a congregating place for manatees and visitors alike. Come inside the Center to learn about manatees and other wild animals, Florida's diverse habitats and much more. Explore hands-on exhibits and informational displays that are both fun and educational. Stand along the covered observation walkway or climb the second story observation tower for your chance to see Florida's "Gentle Giants" resting or playing in Moore's Creek. You may also see a variety of other wildlife including the Bottlenose Dolphin, Mullet, Brown Pelicans, and Terns. Stroll through the Center's gardens where red, yellow, and purple flowers abound. We are striving to replace exotic plants with native plants to attract Florida's colorful butterflies. And visit the pond area to read about our effort to sprout red mangrove propagules to donate and plant along the shoreline where needed.

Manatee Rescue Update – White City Park Area

The rescued manatee has undergone X-rays, which revealed several broken ribs that caused air to leak into his body. He is currently receiving critical care and will be given an official name once he becomes stable.

When he was first found, he was barely responsive and taking very shallow breaths. We are incredibly thankful that someone spotted him when they did and took action, it truly made a difference.

This is a powerful reminder that if you spot a manatee and have any concerns, please contact FWC immediately at 888-404-FWCC (3822). Prompt reporting can save a manatee’s life, and we hope this story proves just that.

We will continue to share updates and are hopeful for his recovery. Thank you for caring about and protecting Florida’s manatees.

Manatee Rescue Today!

The Manatee Center was able to assist FWC with another manatee rescue today, hopefully just in time. This poor male became entangled in a difficult situation after being struck by a boat and was found along the bank between Midway Road and White City Park. How someone spotted him was beyond a miracle.

This is an important reminder that even though Manatee Season has ended, manatees are always present in Florida’s waterways. Please continue to stay alert, slow down, and help protect Florida’s beloved marine mammal.

Thanks to the quick response and teamwork, we were able to safely transport the manatee to the Manatee Rescue truck. He is now on his way to SeaWorld for care. We will keep everyone posted and are hopeful for a full and speedy recovery.

We are incredibly grateful to FWC for their ongoing rescue and recovery efforts and proud to support their mission.

🌊🐋 A Wonderful Week at the Manatee Center! 🐋🌊

The Manatee Center had a fantastic week, filled with exciting manatee sightings and a special Creekside Chat during our Free Admission Wednesday!

We were thrilled to welcome Celeste McWilliams with Coastal Connections, who led engaging chats all about sea turtles and their habitats. Visitors loved learning more about these incredible creatures and the important role they play in our ecosystem.

We’re so grateful for amazing eco-partners like Coastal Connections. By working together to educate and inspire our community, we help protect and preserve our precious ecosystems for future generations.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, we look forward to seeing you again soon!

🌊🐋 Inspiring the Next Generation of Lagoon Stewards! 🐋🌊

The Manatee Center was thrilled to host an Eco Boat Tour for Lawnwood Elementary, made possible through a generous donation from the Fort Pierce Yacht Club as part of their annual Foundation 2025 award!

We selected Lawnwood Elementary because the Indian River Lagoon is essentially right in their backyard. We believe it’s especially important for these students to experience, and build a deeper connection with, their unique local ecosystem.

Through hands-on education and exploration, we hope to inspire students to become future stewards of our community and environment.

We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of the Fort Pierce Yacht Club and proud to share a commitment to educating and empowering our community through environmental stewardship.

Thank you for helping us create meaningful experiences that we hope will leave a lasting impact on St Lucie County students for years to come!
