Seascape Art by KAN
Seascape Art by KAN is owned and operated by Kelly Anne Roberts, a local SWFL artist. Kelly started painting in 2014 when her best friend sent her an art kit and within just a few months, began selling her paintings through social media under the name of “Art By KAN”. (KAN is short for Kelly Anne).
In the beginning of 2016, Kelly was preparing to open her new business, “Art By KAN” in front of her husband’s storefront booth at a local fleamarket. However, before doing so, she received heart-breaking news that her friend and local artist from the booth across the aisle was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer. He was told that he probably had less than a year to live. Her friend was Charles ‘Scott’ Hickman, the artist of “SEASCAPES by Scott”.
Putting her studio plans on temporary hold, Kelly began painting with Scott in April of 2016. This enabled “SEASCAPES by Scott” to remain open for business so that he could focus on the fight of his life. Together, they hosted and instructed hundreds of guests at Flip-Flop Paint Parties and created pieces of art for fundraisers which helped to raise funds to cover the mounting medical costs. Scott fought long and hard for almost two and a half years. Sometimes, the only relief he felt was when he would sit down with a paint brush in his hand and begin creating on a blank piece of wood or canvas. Painting brought Scott so much joy and a great amount of peace during some of the most difficult and frightening moments of his life. In July of 2018, Scott went home to the place God had prepared for him. He is missed greatly here on earth by his family, his friends and the many customers who have come to know him over the years.
Kelly continues to create art in the same studio space where she and Scott painted together for over two years. In January of 2019, Kelly changed the name of her business from “Art by Kan” to “SEASCAPE Art by KAN”, in honor of her friend and fellow artist, who loved painting just as much as she does.
