The Maine Acadian Heritage Council held its annual meeting at the Grand Isle Community Center on Sunday, September 27. Aside from regular business, we celebrated our members' accomplishments over the course of the last year: the restoration of the Daigle-Dube House in Fort Kent, a successful Maine Acadian Day in St. David, the Acadian Village's 50th anniversary, and much, much more.

We also had the pleasure of honoring Gerald Soucy of Grand Isle with the Acadian Achievement Award. Gerald has been instrumental in the preservation and commemoration of local history for many years. His dedication to Acadian heritage is a model not only in Grand Isle but across the region. Congratulations Gerald! (David Soucy, GIHS; Gerald Soucy, honoree; Patrick LaCroix, MAHC President)

The Acadian Achievement Award has been granted annually since 1995. Past honorees include Ross and Judy Paradis, Marc Chassé, the late Guy Dubay, Cleo Ouellette, les Chanteurs acadiens, and many more proponents of the culture of the St. John Valley.

🚂 All Aboard for a Great Cause! 🍂

We are incredibly grateful to Maine Northern Railway for selecting the Aroostook Hospice Foundation as the charitable recipient of this year’s Fall Foliage Train Rides!

On Saturday, September 26, enjoy a beautiful ride through the St. John Valley, with all proceeds from ticket sales benefiting the Aroostook House of Comfort.

Maine Northern Railway is generously providing the train and crew, and we are equally grateful to the United Way of Aroostook and their volunteers for stepping up to help us bring this special event together.

🎟️ Tickets are $30 per passenger and go on sale September 10 at 9:00 AM. All passengers, including young children riding on a lap, will need a ticket. The ticket link will be shared that morning.
