White River Valley Historical Society Keeping Ozark's History Alive Since 1961

Throughout the past 50 years, members of the Society have followed its’ mission to “preserve, protect, and promote” the cultural history of the region. Committees and volunteers work tirelessly with efforts to transcribe cemeteries, document historic sites and structures, offer exhibits and educational events, and make as many collection items available in the research library as possible.

Townsend Godsey a photojournalist was elected mayor in Hollister when he and his wife relocated to the Hollister area in 1960. This photo taken during one of the Hollister's famous floods during the WWII years, he rows a John Boat into the lobby of the English Inn.
Though the image is faint, it remains truly iconic.

We've posted this 1998 Springfield newspaper article before, but it perfectly captures an incredible chapter in our history: the literal relocation of Forsyth to its present-day home to make way for Bull Shoals Lake.
A huge thank you to the Taney County residents who saved these stories and photographs over the years. Our community's past is preserved for generations to come!

A legendary moment in Forsyth sports history! 🏀🏆
In March 1973, Coach Charlie Campbell and his Forsyth Panther Basketball team captured the State Basketball Championship in the Class S playoffs.

Here we have the timeless photo of the team returning home from Columbia, the original Columbia newspaper write-up, and the tournament program itself.
This team cemented their place in Forsyth history. Let's keep the memory alive—drop a comment if you remember this championship season!
