This painting hits you immediately - and that's its power.

Against an intense, unapologetic blood-red ground, an elderly Haitian man holds his head in his hand. His face is not rendered smoothly - it's built up in thick, fractured, almost sculptural brushstrokes of olive, yellow, black and white. You can feel age, worry, wisdom and exhaustion in the texture itself. The paint is agitated around him - scribbled lines in turquoise and white, like static, like memory, like the noise of history.
At the top, in a stark white line box, the word HAITI - large, grey, blocky, almost like a headline or a stamp. At the bottom left, the declaration: PEYIM PA POU VANN - Creole for "My country is not for sale." And at the bottom right: CREATOR: SAGAGE.

The text does the rest of the work. HAITI at the top frames him, but he breaks through it - his head rises above the noise. He is bigger than the headline. And PEYIM PA POU VANN anchors it at the bottom - not as a slogan shouted in anger, but as a quiet, firm truth whispered by someone who has lived it.
It says: We have suffered, but we are not a commodity. We are thinking, we are still here, and our dignity is not for sale.
