Throwback Thursday!

50 years ago this week, here and around the Grove, we saw Sue Trombley and her Fourth graders at Central putting on “Hansel and Gretel;” and Sue's dad Charles Trombley and the thespians at Theatre in the Grove were putting on “Fiddler on the Roof,” the Theatre’s twentieth production, and were celebrating the purchase of the Grove Theatre building; “Sandy Soils” presented Susan Maller with the Outdoor school’s Outstanding Camper award; High School seniors opened their cap and gown boxes to find uncomfortable sizes; The Hedgers opened the Kirby Vacuum Center (where La Estrella restaurant is today); and Dairy Queen was just about to open its doors, on the corner of Maple and Pacific. And that’s just a small fraction of the news items we found back then. Let us know what you recall about these folks and the places shown! Enjoy the flashback!

Today is Wednesday and do you know what that means?

That means in only 4 more days you can tour TWO gardens for ONE price in Forest Grove!

On the grounds at the Alvin T. Smith House, will be many small fairy gardens to discover and the opportunity to buy one also.

Head over to Camino Drive and check out the Japanese garden!

These two gardens are part of our fundraising efforts for projects for our all-volunteer organization. Remember when we purchased the historic Alvin T. Smith House? Well, that takes money to restore it and create a historic destination. We appreciate every donation and everyone who attends our events and every member who joins our organization. Thank you!

Coming up soon! TWO unique gardens in our series of garden tours.
Mark your calendar for Sunday, June 7th and check out the miniature "fairy gardens" at the historic Alvin T. Smith House and then don't forget to stop by to see the Japanese inspired garden on Camino Drive!

We are an all-volunteer non-profit organization and it takes a lot of volunteers in many different capacities to create events, so if you ever have an inkling that you would like to help out, just let us know! Thanks, and see you on Sunday!

Throwback Thursday!

50 years ago this week, here and around the Grove, longtime physics and chemistry teacher Art Brachmann retired from Forest Grove High; the Forest Grove Swim Club had several wins at the Columbia Basin Blue Conference meet in Springfield; Donette Spidal of Cherry Grove selected the name “Goodin Creek Road” for County Road 268; Gaston High students showed off their creations made in various vocational classes; Sunset Library Society volunteers got ready for the new Banks community library soon to open; Many distance records were made by long jumpers at the Coast-Valley League finals; and Lung Wah Restaurant replaced the Companion Restaurant, specializing in Cantonese cuisine. All this and much more was in store in this week’s news, 1976. Let us know if you recall any of these fine folks! Enjoy the flashback!
