Storytime at the Florence Mound Museum was a treat last week! We celebrated Earth Day and read 𝘽𝙚𝙧𝙧𝙮 𝙎𝙤𝙣𝙜, written by Caldecott Medalist and a member of the Tlingit Nation, Michaela Goade. After the story we created pollinator seed bombs to take home! We also learned how important the Earth is in Native American Culture. We look forward to continuing our stewardship at the Florence Mound with ongoing programs like this one. Next month we look forward to reading aloud at the Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts.

Storytime at the Museum
Florence Arts & Museums will celebrate Earth Day with Storytime at the Museum on Thursday, April 23rd, from 3:30-4:30pm at the Florence Mound and Museum. Join us for a read-aloud session with our Museum Educator of the picture book, Berry Song written by Caldecott Medalist and a member of the Tlingit Nation, Michaela Goade. After the story, students and their families will be invited on a nature walk and a native plant scavenger hunt to celebrate Earth Day! The walk will take place atop of the mound and around the garden areas, weather permitting. The students will also get a chance to create their own clay native-seed bomb as a make & take gift to celebrate Earth Day! We hope to see you there!

This event is free and recommended for children ages 5-8, but all ages are welcome.
The Florence Mound and Museum is located at 1028 S Court Street, Florence, AL 35630. Parking is located around the mound on the circular drive. This past month, former Decatur City High School Student and intern from the summer of 2025, Amelia Peek and her friend, Khazayah Mason pose for a picture on the Florence Mound after visiting the museum and touring the outdoor spaces. Amelia was excited to return to the Florence Mound and Museum to share what this special place has to offer future college students like Khazayah and herself.
Both students have plans to attend universities in Alabama in the fall and hope that their studies will lead them back to museums in the near future. The FAM sites, and the Florence Mound Museum in particular, helped them grow their shared love for culture, history, art, and science. If you are interested in how Florence Arts and Museums can help you in your future studies or a future career through programming, internships, or visits, be sure to visit our website at florencealmuseums.com.
