Amelia Island Museum of History Located in Fernandina Beach, Florida, and housed inside the former Nassau County Jail.

Hours of operation: Monday through Saturday 10 am - 4 pm and Sunday 1 pm - 4 pm. We have docent led tours Monday through Saturday at 11 am and 2 pm, on Sunday at 2 pm. Thanksgiving Eve, Christmas Eve and New Years Eve we close at 1:00, we are also closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years Day and for Shrimp Fest.

Head over to the Amelia Island Museum of History for this November installment of our Brown Bag Lunch series titled "Failure Was Never An Option" with Gene Kendall.

During the presentation, Gene will be talking about his deeply moving memoir, which chronicles his path from growing up in the segregated housing projects of North Carolina to overcoming extraordinary obstacles and racial barriers. He willdiscuss his experiences as one of the first African American undergraduate students to integrate Duke University, his family's personal hardships—including his brother's battle with polio—and his rise through military leadership to become one of the first African American Rear Admirals in the United States Navy.

Did you know that the St. Johns River Lighthouse was first lit in 1859 and is located on what is now the Naval Station Mayport?

Join us at the Amelia Island Museum of History for this October installment of our 3rd on 3rd monthly series titled "A War for Native Independence" with Dr. Matt Jennings.

This presentation traces the diverse responses of the Indigenous peoples of the Southeast to the struggle between Great Britain and its mainland colonies in the 1770s and 1780s. Whether Native communities attempted to remain neutral, or actively allied with the British or Americans, the war eventually reshaped the region, and all of its peoples were confronted with a new reality and a new imperial power.

Join us at the Amelia Island Museum of History for this October installment of our 3rd on 3rd monthly series titled "A War for Native Independence" with Dr. Matt Jennings.

Dr. Matt Jennings, is a Professor of History at Middle Georgia State University in Macon, Georgia, specializing in early American history, the history of violence, and Native American studies.

Dr. Jennings earned his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois and serves as the president of the Ocmulgee Mounds Association.

UPDATE: The Graveside Chronicles will go on, rain or shine. If the weather becomes too untenable, the tour will be moved to the museum. While this isn't ideal, and we hope to stay on the beautiful grounds at Bosque Bello, it will still allow you to be entertained and enlightened by our list of characters, including our Revolutionary War soldiers. As a bonus, this will also give you a chance to see the Museum if you have never had the opportunity. We will send out an update on FB if it becomes necessary to relocate.
