Farmersville Heritage Museum Joins Countywide America 250 Museum Patch Quest

The Farmersville Heritage Museum is proud to join eight other Collin County museums in celebrating America’s 250th anniversary through the Collin County Museum Patch Quest, a countywide program launching June 2026, while supplies last.

Initiated by Chestnut Square Historic Village and developed in partnership with museums across the county, the program invites guests ages 5 to 99 to visit participating museums and collect limited edition commemorative patches, each uniquely designed to reflect the spirit, history, and identity of its museum while honoring the America 250 theme.

At Farmersville Heritage Museum, visitors can earn their patch by completing a museum scavenger hunt centered on the history of Farmersville. Guests will answer questions using clues found throughout the museum, making it a fun and interactive way to discover the people, places, and stories of Farmersville. All answers can be found within the museum.

Participating museums include:
Allen Heritage Museum at the Depot, Allen
Chestnut Square Heritage Village, McKinney
County History Museum, McKinney
Farmersville Heritage Museum, Farmersville
Heard Craig Center for the Arts Historical Museum & Wedding Venue/Garden, McKinney
Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary, McKinney
Plano Conservancy at the Interurban Railway Museum, Plano
Military Heritage Collection of North Texas, Nevada
Welcome Center at Brown House, Wylie

For Farmersville Heritage Museum, participating in the America 250 Patch Quest is about more than collecting keepsakes. It is an opportunity to connect people of all ages with the local stories that help tell America’s story. As our nation approaches its 250th birthday, preserving and sharing the courage, sacrifice, perseverance, and everyday lives of those who built communities like Farmersville reminds us that patriotism begins close to home. Through history, we honor the past, strengthen community, and inspire future generations to carry these stories forward.

Farmersville‘s Fifth Grade Students

Today and tomorrow are two of our favorite days at the museum! Every Farmersville fifth-grade student will visit the Farmersville Heritage Museum to learn about the extraordinary history of their hometown, from the story of the Blackland Prairie and early settlement to Farmersville’s hometown hero, Audie Leon Murphy, the most decorated soldier of World War II. There is something special about students discovering the stories of the place they call home.

Now in our fourth year of welcoming fifth-grade classes, this has become a favorite tradition and the students always have a wonderful time learning, exploring, and connecting with their hometown history.

A special thank you to the Farmersville Independent School District, our incredible fifth-grade teachers, parents, and the volunteers who help make this experience so meaningful for our students. A special thank you as well to Paul Gallagher, fifth-grade teacher and our school liaison for the museum visit.

Williamsburg, Virginia! This couple, from Virginia, are on their way to Austin, Texas. They made arrangements to visit the Farmersville Heritage Museum on their way south and we are so glad they did!

One of the most meaningful compliments we received was, “The museum is so connected to the community…like family.”

Thank you for your kindness, your service and safe travels!

We tell the stories that are meaningful and worthy of remembering.

Hello…Friday! Did you know that volunteers hand w**d our Prairie on most second and fourth Fridays? Would you like to work alongside Texas Master Naturalist and learn more about the Blackland Prairie?

Next week we will host all of Farmersville’s intermediate school fifth grade students at the museum. They will experience our Prairie firsthand and learn about the significant heritage of Farmersville including Audie Murphy.

At Farmersville Heritage Museum we tell the stories that matter and are worth remembering.

See you at the museum!

The Farmersville Heritage Museum would like to give a heartfelt thank you to Travis R. Hunt and Bonnie Hunt for the amazing life-size Nutcracker custom designed to represent Farmersville's Hometown Hero and the most decorated soldier of WWII, Audie Leon Murphy. We are greatly honored to receive this gift.

The museum welcomes the life-size nutcracker to our growing collections of Audie Murphy artifacts. The life-size nutcracker helps bring Audie Murphy’s legacy of service, valor, and humility to life in a way that especially captivates and engages children.

The Hunts commissioned Mark Nelson of Nelson's of Steubenville to design and build the Audie Murphy Nutcracker. Nelson Woodcraft is known for creating all of the life-size nutcrackers—more than 200—for Steubenville Nutcracker Village in Ohio. Thanks to the Hunts, the Audie Murphy Nutcracker made its way to Farmersville, Texas!

Travis Hunt is former Commander at Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service. Thank you, Travis, for your service, and thank you to your family for their sacrifices and support.

The Hunts are valued supporters of the museum and a great asset to our community. Together, with supporters like the Hunts, we will keep the important stories alive that impact and inspire our community and our nation.

Thank you!

Best wishes to all our supporters in this Holiday season!
