Congratulations to Donna M Chalimonczyk and Dotty Curry. They are the featured Supporting Artist Members for November at Gallery 4!🥰
Donna Chalimonczyk says the wonderful part of painting is watching a painting emerge from the paint and water dropped on paper. It is truly an exciting experience. She loves the process of painting to see what the picture will look like when it is finished. And, if it doesn’t turn out – it is an opportunity to paint another! What Joy!
Donna began painting in 1998 and since then she has attended workshops by area and national artists hoping to learn, learn, learn. Donna says her goal is to see the world around her and translate it into a painting to enjoy. She mostly paints with watercolors and acrylic paints. She has received a number of painting awards as well as being recognized with YWCA-Cass Clay 2009 Artist of the Year Recognition Award and the Red River Watercolor Society’s Silver Brush Award.
She exhibits throughout the tri-state region in group and individual shows. Her paintings and commissions can be found in many private collections throughout the United States.
She is a member of the Cormorant Lake Area Art Club, FM Visual Artists and is a Signature Status member of the Red River Watercolor Society. She is a founding member of the Hjemkomst Artist Group, which is open to all artists at no cost.
Dotty Curry has lived most of her life as a ‘closet artist’, always creating art but not showing anyone. Then, she was talked into making a donation to a silent auction and a bidding war on it made her think, “Maybe I’m not so bad,” and opened things for her. Dotty is a mixed media and jewelry artist.
Dotty graduated from Valley City State with a degree in music and while learning culinary skills, continued on to study Computer Science at NDSU. Culinary work was the most fun and she worked at the Fargo Country Club for 34 years as Pastry Chef, Executive Chef, and Food and Beverage Director while earning an American Culinary Federation national acknowledgement as a Certified Executive Chef. She also taught at Minnesota State College designing a course in ‘Pairing Food and Wine’ and later teaching Basic Culinary techniques in the core curriculum. She slowed down her pace and finished her career cooking at the Hotel Donaldson for 5 years. You can see some of her recipes that were published in the book “Chocolate, A Cultural Encyclopedia” by Ross Collins.
When she retired, it was time to let her artist flag fly and she has spent the last several years in her art studio trying to catch up for lost time and starting to exhibit at art shows selling her art and jewelry. Retirement is a wonderful thing!
