This #whatisitwednesday trivia question comes from the heritage orchard! The bees and wind have just finished an essential job in the apple life cycle! Do you know what that is? While checking in on our trees, we noticed that many blossoms have dropped and that tiny, tiny apples have started to form, both are great signs!
Leave your answers in the comments and check back on Friday!

On Monday Prairie Restorations did a controlled burn of our restored prairie. The team kept everything (and everyone) safe and it was incredibly cool to watch them at work!

Your #whatisitwednesday challenge is to name a role that fire plays in this ecosystem! Before the mid-1800s over 1/3 of what is now Minnesota was covered in prairie. #tinta #prairie #urbanprairie #nativeplants #minnesota #fire #controlledburn #trivia #ecosystem

We were able to film the burn, so stay tuned for our next video!

The answers to Wednesday’s question are: pȟeží wačháŋǧa, sweet grass and Hierochloe odorata. This plant is native to Minnesota and grows in wetlands, prairies and savannas. It’s sweet smell gets stronger as it dries and it is an incredibly important ceremonial plant for Dakota, Lakota and many by many other indigenous peoples!
