Come say Hi if you are at the Oklahoma Steam and Gas Engine Show in Pawnee!
The Major County Historical Society was chartered on May 3, 1968 and on April 18, 1985, Augusta Specht gave the Major County Historical Society 160 acres of farm land and enough money to build a building for a museum.
The Major County Historical Society is a privately owned entity, governed by an 11 member board, which meets regularly the 3rd Tuesday of each month; these meetings are open to the public. We are a 501 C 3 and receive little to no federal, state, or county funding. The complex and farm is funded by donations and volunteer labor. The museum accepts most donated items, mainly from the Major County and northwest Oklahoma area.
We have several memberships that will accommodate everyone. The memberships we offer are the following: a $200.00 club membership fee, in which the money goes toward capitol improvements only; a couple's membership with a fee of only $25.00; and an individual membership with a fee of $15.00. The Major County Historical Society also has events that are opened to the public. These events on the complex are the Annual Threshing Bee and Two Cylinder Show, an annual Easter egg hunt, Agriculture Day for the school children, Farm Safety Day, and an annual Independence Day event. We also have a Christmas program.
