Looking Back, Looking Forward

Join us October 15 from 5-7 PM for a reception celebrating Looking Back, Looking Forward, an exhibition highlighting the work of the Schack's Art Alternatives Program.

Featuring artwork submitted to the Washington State Partnership Council on Juvenile Justice in response to the prompt “My Future Is,” this exhibition reflects on the work that came before while making space for the voices, ideas, and creative futures taking shape today.

Come spend the evening with us, experience the work, and celebrate the artists behind it.

COMING SOON!

Looking at Art: Critique as a Creative Practice
Dates: Sunday, October 18, 25 & November 1, from 10 am - 1 pm
Fee: $125/ member discount with member code
Instructor: Jennifer Fernandez

Have you ever had a difficult critique experience or wished you could look at art and better understand why you like or dislike it? This class explores the art of looking and provides practical tools for thoughtfully engaging with artwork—whether you’re visiting a gallery, participating in a critique group, or looking at your own work with fresh eyes.

Students will learn the Description, Analysis, and Interpretation method of critique before exploring an adapted version of Liz Lerman’s Critical Response Process. Through examples by a range of artists and optional discussion of student work, you’ll practice giving and receiving constructive feedback while building confidence, curiosity, and community.

No art experience is required—just a willingness to look closely and share your perspective.
