Saturday’s opening reception for In Their Gardens of Good and Evil, a two-person exhibition, and Fifteen Years in an Instant, Perspective Gallery’s anniversary celebration featuring hanging instant prints from our members and former members. In The Seventh Year, artist Susan Isaacson draws inspiration from the Jewish tradition in which every seventh year marks a sabbatical for the land—a time of rest, renewal, and regeneration. In striking contrast, artist Katsy Johnson presents Evil Flowers, her modern take of floral representations of the Seven Deadly Sins. Johnson transforms botanical arrangements into dark meditations on human vice. Together, these two bodies of work invite viewers into a “garden” where nature becomes both sanctuary and snare, reflecting our capacity for renewal as well as our ongoing struggle with temptation. Visit perspectivegallery.org for hours we are open.

Significant seven, a number with mystical and emblematic meaning, makes this month’s dual exhibition at Perspective Gallery especially intriguing. Featuring the work of member artists Katsy Johnson and Susan Isaacson, “In Their Gardens of Good and Evil,” will be on display through November 20th, with a virtual artists' talk on Thursday, November 30th at 7 p.m.
Isaacson’s "The Seventh Year" takes inspiration from the Jewish tradition of seventh year sabbaticals—a time of renewal. In striking contrast, Johnson’s "Evil Flowers" includes floral representations of the seven deadly sins. Together, the two bodies of work invite viewers into a “garden” where nature becomes both sanctuary and snare. Opening today at Perspective Gallery in Evanston is “In Their Gardens of Good and Evil”, a joint show by Susan Isaacson and Katsy Johnson.

Isaacson brings us “The Seventh Year” drawing inspiration from the Jewish tradition of letting the land rest every seventh year, allowing time for renewal and regeneration. This ancient practice led her to reflect on her own relationship with the earth and her belief that all living things are connected.

In striking contrast, Johnson presents “Evil Flowers”, her modern take on floral representations of the Seven Deadly Sins. Drawing on classical still life traditions, she transforms botanical arrangements into dark meditations on human vice, pairing lush bouquets with unsettling modern intrusions.

An opening reception for the show will be held Saturday, November 1st from 5-7pm and an online artists’ talk will take place on Thursday, November 20 at 7pm. Perspective Gallery is located at 1310 1/2B Chicago Ave, Evanston IL. Gallery hours are Thursday – Saturday noon-6pm and Sunday noon-5pm

Turning 15 is a big deal, right? Especially when you consider that many local businesses are not that fortunate. So, when Perspective Gallery in Evanston, IL celebrated its 15th anniversary earlier this year, we wanted to do something big to celebrate. So, we gathered our members and our wonderful photographic community together and set about making a mobile installation of their instant Polaroid prints. A huge thank you goes out to gallery members Susan Isaacson, Kathryn Rodrigues and Alexa Frangos for bringing this wonderful idea to fruition.

“15 Years in an Instant” celebrates the 15 years since a diverse group of photographers established the community non-profit that would become Perspective Group and Photography Gallery. You can view this very special installation at our Gallery from October 30 through December 28. And while you're there, make sure to check out our monthly member artists' shows too. There is always something new to discover!

Perspective Gallery is located at 1310 1/2B Chicago Ave, Evanston IL. Gallery hours are Thursday – Saturday noon-6pm and Sunday noon-5pm
