Steven L. Davis will discuss his latest book Beating Heart of the World on Saturday July 25th from 3:00 to 4:30 at the Bond House Museum. His previous books include Dallas 1963, winner of the PEN Center Literary Award for Research Nonfiction and The Most Dangerous Man in America: Timothy Leary, Richard Nixon & the Hunt for the Fugitive King of L*D (both co-written with Bill Minutaglio.) His writing has appeared in many publications, from The Daily Beast and Politico to the Southwestern Historical Quarterly and Texas Observer. In addition to being an author, he has served as a longtime literary curator and has been a Series Editor for two university presses. Davis, who now lives in Albuquerque, is a public speaker who has given talks across Texas and the nation.

What a remarkable reception we had at the Bond House Museum for NM author and historian Joseph P. Sánchez, director of the Spanish Colonial Research Center at the University of New Mexico on July 3rd. Thank you to all the librarians who participated in the round table discussion and all the guests who looked through our new exhibit "From the Pueblos to the Pacific: Westward Explorations Across Indian Country During New Mexico's Spanish, Mexican & American Eras, 1776-2026".

What a privilege it was to have John Graybill and his wife Coleen come to the Bond House museum and set up the Curtis Legacy Foundation Exhibit here. John is the youngest of only three great-grandchildren descending from Edward S. Curtis. John and Coleen run the Curtis Legacy Foundation which has produced a new Unpublished book series, which continues the stories and portrayals of the Native Peoples that Curtis began more than 100 years ago. They also have developed a Descendants Project which amplifies the voices of Native Peoples whose ancestors were photographed by Edward Curtis more than 100 years ago. For the past four years, they have reached out to living descendants and asked their permission to interview, photograph, and videotape them as they spoke about their experiences as Native People in the 21st century. Come visit the Bond House Museum to see this fascinating exhibit as part of our new exhibit "From the Pueblos to the Pacific: Westward Explorations Across Indian Country During New Mexico's Spanish, Mexican & American Eras, 1776-2026". We are open Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 12-4.

Happy 250th Independence Day! The Bond House Museum is closed today. We will be open Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 12 -4. These lovely commemorative cookies were made by the Loving Oven for the opening reception on July 3rd of our new exhibit "From the Pueblos to the Pacific: Westward Explorations Across Indian Country During New Mexico's Spanish, Mexican & American Eras, 1776-2026".

Joseph P. Sánchez is the director of the Spanish Colonial Research Center at the University of New Mexico. After thirty-five years, he retired from the National Park Service in 2014. During his time with NPS, he served as superintendent of Petroglyph National Monument (2003-2014) and acting-superintendent at Pecos National Historical Park and at Fort Davis National Historic Site. He is the author of several books on the Spanish colonial influences and history of the New Mexico/Texas region and has also served as translator on a number of early Spanish colonial works, including Historia de la Nueva México, 1610. He has published studies on historic trails including the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro, the Camino Real de los Tejas, and the Old Spanish Trail. He has taught at the University of New Mexico, the University of Arizona, Santa Ana College in California, and the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara.
