The Bond House is decorated for the holidays and thanks to Edith we have a lovely exhibit running now through January 6th. Edith has set up 20 nativity scenes from her personal collection to celebrate Christmas. They come from all around the world! We also have items celebrating Chanukkah and Kwanza.

Please take a moment during the next few weeks to stop by and tell a friend or two! We are open Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays 12-4. (Consider becoming a docent! Just 4 hours once a month and you'll make a difference!)

Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukkah, and Happy Kwanza to all of our members! We are grateful to you all for making 2023 such a success for SGHS.

San Gabriel Historical Society is proud to host a special Veterans Day event at the Bond House Museum. Nancy R. Bartlit is a World War II historian, author and a member of the New Mexico Historical Society Speakers Bureau. Her presentation Silent Voices of World War II is taken from the book of the same name that she coauthored and published in 2005. The presentation sheds crucial light on the role of New Mexico and its people in ending World War II. It includes experiences of the U.S. Army Bataan Death March survivors, the U.S.Marine Navajo Code Talkers, the civilian males of Japanese descent held in the Santa Fe Internment Camp, and the scientists and military personnel assigned to Los Alamos during the Manhattan Project. Please join us on Veterans Day to learn more about these heroes and visit Española’s Veterans Memorial on the Plaza to honor others.

Admission is free. Donations are welcomed.

The collection is curated by costume and properties artists at the opera in a first-of-its-kind collaboration with the San Gabriel Historical Society and the Española Valley Opera Guild. The exhibition showcased costumes from principal performers in The Golden Cockerel (2017), The Lord of Cries (2021) and La Finta Giardiniera (2015), and a special set piece featured in last season’s Carmen. Props also include the altar from "Carmen," the tall candelabras from "La Finta Giardiniera," buildings from 2011s "The Last Savage," nautical equipment from "a very old" "The Magic Flute," and a scepter from "The Golden Cockerel."
