Last Wednesday we celebrated with the Ralph Verschoor family on Reminesce Day. Ralph’s daughters, Gloria, Karen and Joan along with their children and grandchildren came to visit along with some friends from the past.

This coming Wednesday October 7th from 1-3 is our quarterly special Reminesce Day. We will be honoring and celebrating Ralph Verschoor and family. Many of you may not remember Ralph’s Garage on First St. for over 40 years but did you also know his children have businesses in town too. Joan Verschoor Sneed has Advanced Skin Care on Main
Street and Karen Verschoor Lucas had Shorty’s for decades.
Please join Karen, Joan and Gloria along with other family members to stroll down memory lane.
Ralph Verschoor came to Escalon in 1946 after serving in WWII as a combat medic and paratrooper for the 11th Airborne in the 503rd Parachute Infantry.
For over 40 years Ralph repaired autos in his business “Ralph’s Garage” on First St. Ralph became the 3rd Mayor of Escalon and one of the first city council members when the city was incorporated in 1957. He also completed 40 years on the ambulance board.
Ralph married Alberdina Scheering in Ripon in 1948. They had four children Gloria, Phillip, Karen and Joan. Ralph was a member of the Christian Reformed Church, the American Legion and the Ripon VFW.
He lived to be 90 years old and just a few months before he passed away in 2016 was honored for his service by the House of Representatives.

The museum will be open from 12-4 with Reminisce starting at 1:00. Please join us for light refreshments and lots of memories.

Yesterday the museum had the pleasure of entertaining students from the yearbook and history classes from Escalon High School.
Joining their teachers, John Yonke (yearbook)and Steve Largent (history) they toured the museum, hunted family members in the yearbooks dating back to 1922 and learned a bit of Escalon History.
Winning an engraved pen was Lola Duenas, who tied with two others choosing the number 67.
When asked what their favorite part of the museum was several said the military section, a few said the story about the rodeo clown and most said it was finding siblings, parents and grandparents pictures in the yearbooks.
We hope you all return to visit with your families soon.
We also wanted to remind the seniors to make sure to check out our scholarship coming this Spring.

Permission to post pictures was granted by all the students and teachers.

The museum has a lot going on the next few months.
First up and already started is the the Museum Trail.
Visit several local museums, get your passport stamped and win prizes. Stop by today and pick yours up, we’re open from 12-4. See the flyers below.
You can pick up your passport at any participating museum, make sure to put you name on it and turn it in to the last one you visit. You must visit at least four of the five by November 1st to be entered into the drawing.
